I didn't noticed the mask thing, but disabled helms very fast, hairs.
Half the hats don't even cover your chin, and you are left with this moronic mask that doesn't even cover your neck. Absolutely lazy design. - said once a great man that too hated this forced skimask design

It says it's for mages but you can apply it to any class via the wardrobe.
If you want to show hair it's either that or toggling off show helmet.
Helmets are ugly in all games, though, so this isn't anything new. I always run no helmet or choose a headband in every game that has the option.
A lot of the helmets still look really silly, though, because that's just how they were designed.
