In a dark fantasy themed game ....lol
It's an artificial fuss - stoked by people who make a profit out of agitating people being suspectible for these kind of things. Every game release nowadays which includes any element like that fuels the money machine of agitators. They just have to release a video on asocial media about it and their sheeps fall into line - parroting all the clickbait layed out before them.
I'm over 60 hours into it at the moment, had the quests with Taash where the whole non-binary thing is mentioned a few times, and the reactions from their mother. But the way the people on the forums have been talking about it, its like its really thrust into your face and you can't escape it. It really isn't mentioned that much, sure the other companions start using they/them pronouns, but I don't see how this is as offensive as people keep saying it is.
From reading the forums, people make it sound like Taash is running around everywhere with a huge non-binary flag on their back and preaching to everyone about who they are, but its nothing like that.
I just find it funny that everyone piles on that character because its a non-binary topic. Other characters keep moaning about other things, because each companion's questline has a different topic. Lucanis always talks about his demon and the crows, Emerich talks about his fear of dying and quest for lichdom, Davrin keeps moaning about having to look after a griffin. No-one gets upset about these whining characters, just the non-binary one, because that's offensive!
Everyone is just so easily annoyed and upset these days, if something isn't made perfectly for your tastes, then the whole thing is crap and must be destroyed. Sure there are parts I'm not keen on in this game, but I am still enjoying it overall. Nothing is perfect. Like you said, you don't need to complete Taash's quests to complete the game, so if people don't like that character, don't hang out with them. Problem solved.
So much this. I e.g. hated Zevran back in DA:O - or any rogue style gameplay in any RPGs for that matter. Yet I'm just using the other options and I'm not burning down the dev for not 100% meeting my preferences.
I can even play DnD games without *gasp* relying on sneak attack characters. Weird stuff, I know. Live and let live seems is out of place these days.
Right. But also, if you don't hang out with them, you don't get to say that they stay annoying and don't learn, grow or change as a character.
They didn't hire a writer for their skill.
They hired a writer because they are trans.
Did BioWare hire a writer for the job or did BioWare hire a trans person for the job.
Not that trans people are automatically bad writers... just in this case well...
Not sure if what I am saying will make sense. Will probably be called a bigot.
If you hate the game, stop playing it and go play something else, stop trying to convince everyone to destroy the developer. Works both ways doesn't it?
Anyway, I'm off to go play the game again, I've had my fill of hate threads today. I'm enjoying the game, I'm sad that other people find it so offensive and terrible.
The reverse also applies. So many people hanging out on these forums the past 2 weeks to complain about something they don't want to play, incapable of understanding that other people like it. Or just unwilling to accept that people enjoy different things.
You could also go play something else you do like.
The combat is a generic, God of War/TLOU wannabe. The characters are all self-insert Seattle garbage that suffer from dialogue ventriloquism and are all unlikeable. Everyone's ugly, androgynous, not looking like proper men or women, etc. The writing is just complete garbage.
So in short it's not what you like to play and you are spending your sunday playing some other game? Noice!
Oh and, you're forgetting that this game you supposedly "like", takes the place of a game that could have been good for the actual fans AND you. We could have had another Dragon Age Origins in terms of quality, but nope, they wasted 200-300m on this garbage.
Nobody would give a ♥♥♥♥ if Bioware just said "we're making a high fantasy Guardians of the Galaxy wannabe with God of War Ragnarok gameplay and it's not Dragon Age!", and honestly, nobody cares what you like, it's good for you, but the "modern audience" is taking games away from the fans instead.
