Heres something else to think about, they mentioned their 1 mil sales 2 weeks after release, in this article OP posted.

We're now 2 weeks after veilguard and EA isn't bragging.
That alone tells me it hasn't hit 1 mil.

There's a point where hitting that milestone doesn't really matter unless its done within a set period of time. And drawing attention to it just makes you look bad because you are admitting it took this long to reach a certain point.

It's pretty terrible nowadays..

I was sure Dragons Dogma 2 hit 3 m in like 3-4 days and that game wasn't all that great

DAI sold 14M units.

At release it's been trashed as much than DAV, but not released on Steam and haters probably less organized, they failed have a big impact, still enough to low down global metacritic rate (I don't comment metacritic users trash), but not enough to stop DAI get the GOTY which certainly was a big help on the road to 14M.

Clearly DAV get burned by hate well concentrated in steam forum for more efficiency.

I'm curious to see what will be the goty because this year was full of trash and some sell a ton.

SM2 is single player junk like was SM1. If it gets anything it won't be single player GOTY or the world went mad.

This was sort of my own thoughts on the matter. DAI announced their 1 million copy sales within a week. Someone else mentioned somewhere that those numbers had NOT included digital sales, this was only hard copies. But please don't quote me on that, I'll have to double check.

Like you I don't know if it's a fake or not, but I wouldn't be surprised DAI was a half fail at release.

People have forgot a lot, but DAI triggered as much violent hate than DAV does, and very similar comments (trash combats, ARPG not RPG. game for people without brain, boredom writing, ridiculous companions, and more). That there was no steam forum for an efficient hate propaganda lowered a bit the impact but not that much.

So DAI had all to be a half fail at release, but it got the GOTY anyway, if there have been a DAI Seam forum it would probably not have happen.

And a GOTY not totally absurd as it was for DAI can generate many sells, this probably explaining the 14M sells in part.

And just for the record, Inquisition had Denuvo.

That being said, worth noticing that both games are not even close to Origin, but still good in their own way.
