I disliked the game for many reasons tho.
Edit: What I don't understand is that if they truly wanted to 'return to form', why not copy the approach to the first game?
Because EA had long since bought them, the founder doctors had left bioware years prior and most of the staff had changed. Its also possible that Bioware without any guard rails and focus got a bit distracted.
I remember the trailers for Witcher 3 appearing right after DAI which is silly since when DA2 showed it's trailers Witcher 2 drew a stark contrast right after too.
It just became more and more clear that BioWare had lost its magic. So we hoped gor strong companion and dialog decision typed journey of a hero game like Bioware was known for.
We got a singleplayer mmo instead.
Loved Origins, struggled with DA2, was okay with Inquisition. It was definitely a step up from DA2, but yeah the whole main plot was completely screwed over thanks to a very tight deadline (again). I remember reading somewhere that DAI was supposed to be done in two years, like DA2. But the lead creator demanded for an extra year, and then demanded another three or six months.
Dragon Age, the entire series, has been crushed under EAs dumb-arsery. DA2 was made in a serious crunch, DAI was almost forced into an MMORPG, and DA: Dreadwolf was completely nuked in favour of Failguard.
We had one good game: Origins, and it was good because they had time to make it. They had five years.
Am I a dumbarse for liking that musical number? I will happily take that title.
I don't disagree that Inquisition is not the best in the series by far. Hell, it had a lot of issues, but it was a lot better than DA2 (not saying much) and despite its flaws it still FELT like a dragon age game. It had a lighter tone, but nothing compared to veilguard.
I didn't like the Origin because it was predictable and boring.
Oh nvm, you said inquisition, not veilguard. My bad. Carry on.
In 2010 it was already well-known that EA is the great butcher of dev studios. By then they had already absorbed and creatively killed over 10 studios, among them for instance Westwood Studios.
EA is investment sharks incarnate. The moment they acquired Bioware mid development in Dragon Age: Origins was the sign it was over. Everyone still clinging on thereafter is too well-meaning and quaint, believing the lies of corporate EA.
I still get sadface when I think about EA acquiring Origin Systems and butchering Ultima 9.
I still replay Ultima 7 every now and then.
And despite all this, people continue to give EA an chance. It boggles the mind.
