Watching folks lose their minds because and claim the game flopped because it didn't hit like 200k concurrent players day 1, feels kinda like some of the same in this very topic. While early sales can be an indication a game does well, that's not every available data point.
even if its 1mil copies sold, depending on what cost you use to calculate, its probably still looking bad though.

1m*70 = 70m

lets say 100mil = 7/10 of cost covered, not a big flop, could cover cost over lifetime
lets say 250mil = 0.28/1 of cost covered, big flop, may not even cover cost over lifetime

The big question is how long legs Veilguard will have on the sales side.
I have heard 12 mio sold for Inquisition, but most of those will have been sold at far below launch price in the years up till now.

BG3 managed to have a very good grass roots campaign with both the characters and the voice actors getting a lot of views, keeping interest and drowning out the grifters to ensure sales at full price.
Veilguard does not seem to have hit the same high notes at all, and Taash's "careful, I preach" is not quite Astarion level

BG3 was a once in a generation game, both the identity politics crowd and the chuds both seem to love it.

Let's get deeper...it's 1 mil@60(not 70)....~30% goes to the platform(Steams at 30 and probably more for advert)

100 mil dev cost is a flop I highly doubt it cost 250

It's pretty bad....given this situation

It could all be a lie tho...if you want to stay optimistic I'd shoot for 2+ mil in sales.

probably not all of sale are on steam, and some have brought up that large publishers have better deals on steam and i can see that, it happens in aws which is main basis on why i believe that.

Farming simulator 25 has more players on launch day than dragon age veilguard, and most likely more than it ever will.

I would love to know how much EA spent in advertising. Sponsoring a front page ad on steam, PSN, and Xbox for this long has got to be expensive for a game so far down on the sales charts.

The problem is that for now we don't know how much it actually sold, they are all just worthless rumors, including this one

It's pretty insane, most of us knew veilguard would sell poorly but I don't think anyone could have predicted that.

It's rough...

I have no beef with LGBTQ+..I just can't STAND cringe writing anymore...nothings cool anymore. I knew this was gunna happen when FF X 2 hit the market and I hate to see the worst of what I predicted of this series after inquisition(tolerable)

I just want people to be sick of the style. Like wtf are they wearing in this game? Stalker 2 looks cool tho...so I got that. Still sleeping on cyberpunk for a rainy day

I love how you people all speak of this "huge development cost" but nobody has any numbers or any real clue what the game even cost to make.
According to some Bioware devs it was quiet a bit cheaper then Inquisition which already made a profit with similar sales numbers.

But go ahead, i know your entire worldview is dependent on this game being a flop.
So just rewrite reality till it fits your purpose like always.
:lunar2019laughingpig:

DA Inq had a 2.5 year dev time.

Vs

DAtV 8-9 years dev time. started over 2 times. had a bigger dev team,
There is no way in hell DAtV cost less than inquisition.
Its was at least double, but more likely to be tripple the cost of inquisition, with the longer time and larger team.

You don't even own the game. Why would you defend something so much when you don't even care to buy it? lmao
