Unfortunately, demos seem to be 'uncool' nowadays.
You get 1 or 2 hours with steam to be able to refund it - should be more than enough time in most cases to test it to see if it runs. Good luck.
Oh I'd advice rushing through character creation to get to the game - you can always start again after you establish if the games runs well or not.
Not so much as they are uncool and more that they take up huge resources that is probably being used to finish off the game.
Even ignoring the fact rolling out a demo and the you need to support it, you then have 2 versions of the game. Find a bug and you probably need to go fix it in both versions.
Launch period is a really stressful time.
But yeah as a gamer it is a shame there is not more demos. I love the a BG3 model of EA for major fans of the game, to help them develope the game and give feedback, which larien took seriously and so by the time the full release came Larien already knew it was solid.
Dragon's Dogma 2 had such a demo.
