Leave your prejudice in the Fade. The Veil has torn—play it, for it is truly worth it.
The negative judgment is clearly driven by a shared stance rooted in discomfort towards non-binary people. Most of the reviews are misleading and written by people who haven’t actually played this game—maybe just the first five minutes. I read that someone called it "Disney-like," but perhaps that player hasn’t seen the Hoosberg Swamps, post-devastation Minrathous, or even the Necropolis. As for the “shallow dialogue”? Maybe there’s some functional illiteracy going around. The characters are incredibly well-developed and deep; they all interact with each other, creating unique dynamics. The game and gameplay are smooth and well-animated.

To be understood and appreciated, a game needs to be played in its entirety—including all the side missions, which add depth, emotion, story, and bring all the pieces together. I finished it in tears. I’ve played every title, and since I romanced Solas in Inquisition, what happens—thanks to completing the side quests and the Crossroads—between him and the Inquisitor at the end of Veilguard moved me deeply. The voice acting is masterful; the emotions and intentions are truly immersive. The maps are highly detailed, and you can create a variety of playstyles. For me, it’s a 9/10 game.

Those who complain about the lack of open world clearly haven’t explored the maps, which are vast and easy to get lost in. That said, there are things that could’ve been done better, like how some of the returning characters were handled. A few left a bitter taste in my mouth because of how differently they were designed. I would have liked to see crafting return, but the upgrade mechanics are still solid. I also would’ve liked to rely more on character tactics.

All in all: PLAY IT, and then we’ll talk. Immerse yourself in the story, don’t go in with prejudice because of a community that’s taken a stance against the character Taash and their identity. I want to emphasize that their story is incredibly deep—a journey of self-discovery, seeking maternal approval, and ultimately feeling truly themselves. Thank you.

I played and beat the game, I agree with most reviews. Visuals are good combat is okay but boring. Writing and story are weak. Also inquisition is the only game with open maps. That’s isn’t the issue people have with the series.

I liked it for the most part. And I *have* played previous Dragon Age games.

Man, you're wrong. Look at the reviews. The vast majority doesn't even mention the non-binary topic.

It's just terrible writing all over the place, with poor character build-up and a lack of nuances, wit and atmosphere that the writing of the previous 3 DAs had.

It's like they didn't even try, and drown you in repetitive emotional support work for a kindergarten throughout 75% of the game.

Compare that to Cole, Blackwall and others from the past, with true dilemmas and real drama in their story. Where you had meaningful, even nearly philsophical dialogues, where it was about redemption through worthyness in the face of dark forces.

DA:V has nothing of this, even the perfect template to explore the classic DA writing, which comes with Lucanis, the assassin with a demon inside, falls flat in it's delivery and weight.

This is not about non-binary, no. This is about rushed and just bad writing and character development, dramatic composition and delivery of story arcs. It's as plain as a children's book.

I read some journals in game and I didn't really get it. Are trans abominations?

This is Stephanie Sterling a well respected trans journalist has to say to your argument

Man Jim really lost himself, good thing I stopped watching that slop years ago.
I don't own the game and maybe I will, some day, but a long standing problem of Bioware is being stuck in the Baldur's Gate type of world design, always delivering these very small and linear levels, like they sinultaneously made a top down 2D game in the other room, and then adapted its environments to 3D. "Origins" had this problem really visible, and honestly, in the beginning I had to learn to like it.

I really respected Inquisition when it came out, because it finally delivered what the Dragon Age series needed so much: less invisible walls, some space to freely explore, without the storyline directing everything you do. Play your own story. With this game they took player freedom away once more, when the competition is delivering that in spades... and the only thing which could compensate for that important loss, is excelence on narrative and dialogue writing, at least on par with the first two games, if not above them. Failing that, the product just feels underwhelming, not meeting expectations, despite the great production value, action controls and character animations which are indeed first class.

Maybe the problem wasn't even Bioware but EA, with its strict deadlines and funding, which forced the studio to cut corners and streamline things in order to meet EA's demands. It wouldn't be the first epic RPG franchise that they kill. The Ultima series was -the- RPG series if there ever was one... decades of gaming legacy, and a hardcore fan base that still to this day make content for it. EA suits killed the series in the most disrespectful way, disbanded the developer Origin, and it has done nothing ever again with the IP.

You seem to forget veilguard was suppose to be live service. Shifting a project mid development tends to be catastrophic. Despite the games issues it releasing bug free is commendable.

Can't get these people to play good games. They hate gaming for whatever reason nowadays. Be lucky if they even knew what the Fade was in lore to be honest.

Good is subjective, just because some don’t like this game doesn’t mean they hate gaming. What’s with all these excuses you make for this game?

This games failure destroyed lives and people still defend it
