veil cracks

Just before the first god fight, the sequence with the many cracks ends in nothing. How on earth do I get through it? If I approach a crack, I die immediately. I've tried this about 60 times now. I get 3 corrupted nodes. I get away from the last one. I die non-stop. How can I close the cracks? Without cheats? No matter what I try or do, it's impossible. At the beginning of the game, you can trigger the cracks, but at the end it doesn't work. I die immediately over and over again, it's no longer fun.
