What do the devs have against beauty and making conventionally attractive characters?
Seriously, the females in this game have literal male bodies and it's impossible to give them a slender and curvy figure. :csd2meh:

I disagree. It looks like a mobile or gacha game. Too much sparkles. Too little strategy. No blood. No weight behind anything. Just a bunch of particle effects.

HUGE effects hiding bad textures and animations, mages jumping around, all sliding through battlefield, really "best combat ever".
Any mobile free2play game is better.
Dragon Age Origins, the first in the series, had the Arcane Warrior, a mage specialization which focused on making mages melee focused and more mobile, rather than stationery spellcasters. Inquisition had the Knight Enchanter, a melee focused mage who'd teleport around the battlefield.

Shows how much of a "fan" you tourists really are if you don't even know that mages have always been capable of that in the series

Let me get this straight. The fact that Bioware worked to make their characters feel like actual persons and to have more substance than just their looks is a bad thing?

They are not mutually exclusive tho. Up until Inquisition Bioware characters were plenty interesting, with vibrant personalities, deep and attractive.

This is just me speculating, but bear with me, Gaider on twitter once said(jokingly i guess) that he can't take his character seriously because he made him so attractive. I can't shake the feeling that this kind of thinking has more truth to it than it seems on the surface.

That Bioware, in general, may think that a character who is very attractive is automatically less interesting or maybe feels shallow. Like "oh that dumb pretty girl, i don't want to listen to her?"

I just can't see any downside to making characters(both male and female) conventionally attractive.
But that was not the point of the Matt Rhodes quote. The stakeholders wanted to erase all or most flaws and quirks that humanized them, and the team worked hard to keep them from turning into just dolls.

I agree that characters can be made attractive and still have flaws, and the way I see it, Bioware has always been good at making good looking characters that also have flaws. And so far this game seems to be on same level as any previous game (sure, the characters might turn out to be pretty much flawless but considering the writers I doubt it). And it seems there are many others who also feel the same way about the characters attractiveness. But then there are also many people who don't find them attractive. And Bioware can't possibly please every potential customer out there.

Hell, that has pretty much been the case the whole time. Any Bioware game, all the way from BG, has had fans who like all the characters, those who like some of them and those that don't particularly like any of them. So which of these fans should Bioware listen to?

The majority, always the majority. I just don't see the point in making a character not very attractive. You don't have to make a character less attractive to make them more interesting. That just boggles the mind. Even thinking of Jack from ME2. She's damn hot. Give her long flowing hair and she'd be right at home on any fashion show catwalk.

That's how i'm reading Rhodes post. That Bioware somehow thinks an attractive character is less interesting. Nobody would ever look at a pretty face and say "yeah, let's give him more wrinkles, make his skin sickly looking and add a huge scar that never really healed - it adds to his character."

And this is just my conspiracy brain going off here, unless someone is trying to make a point against beauty standards.

Simple. The majority.

Does this Veilguard prologue character [i.imgur.com] look "extremely ugly" or "not feminine enough" to you? Even if you're not into asians, does she look "extremely ugly" ?

I'm genuinely confused about what exactly you guys consider "conventionally attractive"

Well, actually, if a woman would be swinging sword all day, she probably would have a very athletic body. Which means - small chest. I have been working out for some time and let me tell you, when you loose body fat, the chest is the first one to go. That is a reality. So any argument regaring “average cup is C” does really not take into consideration that.

Still, we should be able to do that I guess, for mages it would still kind of make sense.
talking as a man it was my legs ,butt and upper arms that lost it first , and i think everyones point is realism is fine we like that but why are other worldly beautifull women not included too , its supposed to be inclusive. its ment to be a fantasy

I wouldn't say it's an ugly character.

However, the character looks off. Not sure if it has to do with the overall exaggerated/almond head shape, the oversized eyes, or something else. The facial tattoos don't help.

She reminds me of Fiona from Shrek. Just to clarify: Her ogre form!

She has facial tattoos because she's a Dalish Elf, and every single Dalish elf since the first game in the series has had them because it's part of their culture.

Like, have any of the people complaining here ever even played any of the Dragon Age titles?

You people are such bold-faced liars when contradicted it'd almost hilarious if it weren't so sad.

It has never even occurred to me to use a videogame for purposes of sexual gratification. If I want to "relieve myself" there are far better alternatives.

Have you ever considered stepping away from the computer and finding a girlfriend?

If your first thought after seeing something attractive is to masturbate. I worry for you.

My dear, battle mage class is older than you, and maybe even than me.
Just shows again game devs do not know a sh...t about RPG or DnD or fantasy in general.
You don't even know something so basic about the very first game of the series as the classes available, and yet you're larping all over the sub as if you're some "old times disgruntled Dragon Age Origins" fan.

Stop clowning

I don't expect you to have read every single post in this conversation so let me repeat myself. Maybe it's the art styles fault. Faces just look very cartoonish to the point that i would compare them to pixar characters.

Personally i also find face tattoos extremely unappealing, but thats just me.

For example Morrigan, both in Origins and Inquisition was stunning. So was Leliana, also in both games. Scout Harding was too. But then you have characters like Eveline, Merril, especially Sara who really got hit with the ugly stick and what they did to Anora, Flemeth and Cassandra between DA2 and DAI is just a straight up crime. It feels almost spiteful.

Even the poster this was directed to originally admitted she's not ugly before you inserted yourself, you're either a liar or an ogre shagger lol
