The mythical modern audience

Every attempt to pander to a vocal minority by both the media, entertainment and video game industry has resulted in huge financial losses. The assumption is that the often referenced 'Modern audience' will supplement the void left by the largest traditional consumers of their content - politically moderate men.

The 'Modern audience' has failed to manifest, the vocal minority claiming to speak for this audience seem to be representing no one but themselves, there aren't many of them, and nor do they care to put their money where their mouth is.

Do major publishers and production companies need to go bust and impact the livelihoods and families of their staff before they learn to, once again, sell a good product, rather than an insincere message?

I'll continue to spend my money on games that play well and don't preach, if we all do the same, then hopefully the industry will take the hint and recover before it crashes.

No, but if you like games then you need people to buy them. All industries require funding and cannot survive on political fervour and pink hair dye alone.

I suspect you're referencing a Reddit survey that had the Dragonage player base divide at 60% male and 40%, very similar to the steam player base and people who participate in Reddit are not representative of your average consumers. Taking it at face value, of those 40% women it is not known how many would identify as part of the target 'Modern audience'.

Given the reoccurring number of failures from entertainment, gaming and marketing projects that took a hard left stance it's unlikely this game will do much better. Unless the brand carries it.
