Even if you could, unlike DAO&2, the companions dont do good damage with their standard attacks. So being a support character is not optimal...or even close to it. You are intended to be a damage dealer.
And for it is worth the combat might not be your thing anymore but the rest I hope will be amazing still and ppl love it.
Sounds like it's barely recognizable as a Dragon Age game. Wonder what they were going for.

Here is a video of all the skills in the game. Be warned it does spoil what you can pick. But everything I saw screams no more options but damage dealer.

Not every game is made for everyone and they went for a more action based combat system and I am sure a lot of ppl will try and enjoy that. But let's not make this a rage topic.
