Honest Review for original Dragon's Age players
Take a watch from MrMattyplays, I just watched the 40 minutes and it's well worth it.

Definitely off my list.

I was looking for what made Dragon Age great before not a Disney light adventure.

I think they are looking for a teen fortnite audience.

Original players need not apply.

I'm an original player. DA:VG looks very interesting to me. And some of the biggest lore nerds seem to be approving it. So I bought it.

I played Origins at launch and every Dragon Age after that at launch.

I don't care what reviewer's opinions are on the game, I only care what they say about the objective parts of the game like mechanics, skill trees, etc.

Veilguard has me interested enough to keep an eye on it to see if there are performance issues at launch and try it out if there aren't.

I think Matty only played Inquisition and imo Inquisition was really average even compared with DA2. I loved DA:O, and I liked DA2 even with the problems it had.

I do feel for Bioware devs here, BG3 did drop a live grenade in front of them, I doubt I can expect RPG as detailed as BG3 here, but at the same time they had plenty of old RPGs to be inspired from and learn so my expectations shouldn't be lowered. Sucks for them if they don't reach those expectations.

Gonna wait either way for player reviews to see what people have an issue with and what they liked before I buy.

Both DA:2 and Inquisition leaned towards action combat so I don’t know why you would act like Origins is how the game should be like. Boomstick Gaming which focuses on mechanics of action games says he enjoyed it.

I play loads of strategy games but not every rpg game should be party strategy. If you follow the genre in general there has also been a shift in strategy combat from real time with pause to turn based and in the other direction to action rpg which DA took. A criticism of action rpg (including previous DA games) is they are a bit lackluster on combat and from what I see they tried to make this a better pure action game than some where in the middle. I personally though combat in Inquisition was a bit boring.

It absolutely depends on what you like Origins for. If it's the tone and the writing then Veilguard, from what i've seen, has nothing to offer. But if all you want to see is more lore and maybe you also really like this very modern and sarcastic "well i guess that just happened" or "...and i'm totally here for it" or "heck yeah sister, go girl!" style of character and dialogue writing then Veilguard is literally made for you.

Seems like they've gone for a very fluffy and safe game? A bit Bioware by rote and fantasy trope? Eh. Sure some will love it and good luck to them, there should be room for RPGs where every dispute is settled with a learning moment and a proverbial hug. Not climbing aboard this train myself though, will check in again a few months down the line to see where it's at.

Skill Up called the game "a colossal disappointment."

RIP

How is the romance handled? If it's fairly discreet then this may be a nice 'first epic RPG' for a bairn for Christmas if BG3 is just that bit too grown-up in subject matter and how it handles it.

From what SkillUp said there was no sex scene that he found. He romanced Harding I believe. It doesn't seem nearly as graphic as Baldur's Gate 3. Veilguard seems very squarely targeted at teenagers.

I think the "safe" part is my biggest irk from what I'm seeing. It's an 18+ game, but they aim the game at kids?

Even Skyrim that I would argue is a weak RPG gave you more opportunities to be evil and do fked up ♥♥♥♥ than this it seems. Such a shame for a Role Playing Game.

Thank you. Sounds about right for what you're saying, doesn't it? Hope those who do vibe with it have a great time, just a bit of a shame that it seems Bioware didn't feel they could take more risks and add a little bit of bite to a Dragon Age game.

I do think it's a shame, yeah. I was expecting at least Inquisition's tone to be continued, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Don't take my word as gospel on the sex scenes btw, especially if you're considering getting this for a younger gamer. It could be that the reviewer just missed it. lol
