Looking to get interested in Dragon Age series
I saw this game in the store page and have always wanted to get into a Dragon Age game. They look really cool. I noticed next to the "RPG" tag that this game has "LGBT" as one of it's primary tags. Does the story incorporate gayness as one of it's main themes? What does being gay have to do in the lore of Dragon Age? Genuinely curious.

So people for one reason or another feel the need to slap the LGBT tag on the game in the store. But it's not something I would consider integral to the games or their themes.

Wonder if it has something to do with the Homosexual romances (i.e. L/G) or the Bisexual romances (i.e. B) or with this recent addition of Transgender Identity Dissonance (i.e. T) has anything to do with the tag LGBT.... must be the magic or dragons lol who knows right?

In past games definitely not so integral but, this one makes its quite a forefront focus from what reviews have shown so far

The sarcasm isn't needed.

I generally think of the LGBT tag as being for something where that would be a larger aspect of the game. Like some horny LGBT visual novel for example. Not an RPG that has a couple of those romance options. It also gets put on random games all the time as some sort of attempt at trolling or something.

So that is why I worded it the way I did.

Buy DA: Origins/Awakening as the Ultimate Edition on GOG. The Steam version is flaky; the GOG version has an update/patch. Wait for a sale, it's about $15.

The creative director has called this "the current queer game" there are themes from LGBT that are inconsistent with ingame lore to fabricate inclusion that functionally wouldn't have some of those themes present based on the other in game problems and lack of access to modern aged psychology or sociology. Like some of the previous comments DAO was the peak for the series but its been a rollar coaster, 2 fell short but has some redeeming qualities, 3 stepped it up a bit while still not exactly nailing it either, this one looks like a dead drop for the series & likely the studio.

If you find the game interesting from first glace, i hope you find something enjoyable out of it but many cocurrent fans don't & have been treated like pariahs by the dev team for criticisms and opinions all the while they gaslight hollow excuses from the criticisms & work through shady business practices to make this game appear to be something its not, to bait casual gamers

What the hell -- someone has to give a serious answer instead of playing politics.

The essential thing you need to know is that being gay means nothing in the setting. It's like telling someone you like strawberries; nobody cares, unless they're throwing a dinner party and you're invited. Some romanceable NPCs have a gender preference, some don't. (My understanding is that none of the Veilguard NPCs will.)

There was actually a minor controversy around DAI because some people thought that one of the sidequests implied that some people in the setting did care whether people were gay or not. I don't think that concern was justified, but I can see how the controversy happened.

Spoilers for DAI:

The companion Dorian's personal quests involve his family's attempt to alter his sexual orientation from gay to straight. However, their concern wasn't actually with where Dorian liked to stick his ♥♥♥♥, it was that he absolutely refused to stick it in the breeding partner / wife they had chosen for him. So it wasn't really about homophobia, it was just a gender-swapped version of the absolutely typical "princess refuses to go through with the arranged marriage to the loathsome man" plot.

I appreciate the insight. Not sure how/why being gay got intertwined with politics and then injected into vidya games.

I get that but just seems redundant, when you mention it being in the game series but don't see why its tagged for being in the game. If its a theme that is present, would it not fit a tag that represents that theme regardless of how prominent it is?

In past games it may have been only romance options and things you can choose to participate in but this one features it much more consistently through companions & general dialogue discussions through out, in game, in an unavoidable way, which is why people tagged it as such

Fair enough. You're not wrong on it being way more consistently present this time around. At least from what I've seen so far.

I'm sorry.

Dragon Age is dying.

Now is NOT a good time to get into it.

I'd recommend waiting six months, and then seeing what the fallout is.

So I guess this wasn't a serious topic then.

What does cyberpunk 2077 and baldur's gate 3 have to do with being gay? They are objectively good games. I don't understand your obsession with gayness in games.
Says the guy who's asking so many questions about it. Dude, it's the internet. If you're secretly into LBGT ♥♥♥♥ just do it. Nobody will tell on you.

Blocked for being a troll though.
