Sick of soft modern millenial writing

Whatever happened to serious tone and high stakes. Most movies, games and TV shows seem to lack any substance nowadays. Everyone seem too relaxed and keep joking around when they are in a dire situation about to be killed. It's just so immersion breaking. Watched some gameplay on YouTube and it seems to be particularly bad in this game.

Not really. My point was that DAII was far '' darker '' than DAO imo.
I always see people bring up DAO ab being dark, but never II.

I'd still say the broodmother lore is darker than anything you listed, but I also don't care about 1 vs 2 that much.

Still think 2 was a worse version of 1, but that's personal opinion and thus unfalsifiable

I'm a millenial and I'm legitimately curious why are writers in my generation so bad? Is it risk aversion? Why do they produce such bad slop?
Is anyone in the industry(entertainment not just gaming) and actually knows?
I'm not against the whole LGBT inclusive stuff but why can't they write something decent?
