Rant from an old fan.
I was a massive BioWare fan ever since BG2 and DA:O was my favorite game that studio ever released (love mass effect trilogy just slightly less than DA). And every game since DA:O the franchise seem to have been going downhill but I still liked DA2 well enough to finish it multiple times and liked* DA:I enough for two playthroughs. One before all DLC and one few years later when all DLCs were added.

But Veilguard is everything I hate with modern games and it genuinely looks like simply a terrible game even if I wasn't a fan of the older dragon ages. Based on the hours of unedited gameplay footage that's already out there for this game, it seems to have terrible writing, contradicting HUGE points from previous games, treating the player as if its a literal 5 year old child with the most braindead and cringy companions with flat voice delivery in the most peak "millennial dialogue"(this is a derogatory term) I've seen in a franchise I care about.

I hate how the fanbase now is just horny shippers, i hate how the developers on that game despise old fans who only want the return to the roots, I hate how EA hired a director to one of my favorite franchises who only ever worked on sims FOUR(4) and I hate how this game is seemingly made for twitter/tumblr cultists who literally only care about how many companions they can ♥♥♥♥ in this game.

This has nothing to do with "wokeness" or whatever other buzzwords you wanna use. This game just looks terrible and I would not be anywhere near as annoyed if it was simply a Dragon Age spin off and not a mainline entry into the series.

Can't wait to see the same 5 "super fans" which live on this forum and who will be too busy defending this ♥♥♥♥ game than actually play it add some useless word-vomit comment.

Aw, you thought that was a gotcha moment. For someone who likes Warhammer I'm a bit surprised you aren't able to enjoy your settings in multiple combat mechanic styles.

Edit: I was talking about writers. Larian has amazing writers.

Larian would do a good job, but if it stays in Bloware, I want new writers well versed in dark fantasy.

Going from a party based tactical RPG to a semi solo hack and slash is pretty jarring.

C'est la vie. Fair to not be into the new combat system, but since I personally am a versatile player I'm willing to try it out.

Not like BG3 and similar games are suddenly being wiped from existence, in fact thanks to BG3 we can look forward to some rise in tactical RPGS again. That's the fun part of playing tons of games for different reasons.

It is "unbelievable" how dark and grim DA:O was compared to this current pathetic state. It was not perfect like humans always rolling max lore wise: Elven Empire collapsed, Dwarven Empire getting steamrolled by darkspawn.

Yes FADE unsealed, so big bad would be out from FADE no? Thedas threatening Darkspawn (CHAOS) invasion sooner I would expect so its like END TIMES like almost hopeless grim dark. I would expect as other OG fans I presume. Btw they should not have shifted the focus from WARDENS and the big bad, like never and changing to generic protagonists, its meh.

Yet in DA:O players are victims of circumstances and ARE NOT SOMEONE Thedas citizens look up to or canonize as "TRUE HEROES", its about fighting to live another day with a ragtag team of misfits (they are tragic heroes, yet their willpower carries them). You are just a few steps ahead of the Blight, so it is nerve wrecking until the end.

I still can not believe my Dwarf Noble could become a Paragon aka restore/ascended further his standing, WHILE outmaneuvering that traitor regent, I made my way up to be chancellor of Ferelden. A possible selfish pact with Morrigan to cheat fate for all of this to be experienced by our characters, since the other option is game over on a personal level.
It is brilliant and human female noble even working/seducing/manipulating her way up to be Queen Consort. You know what - it was well deserved after a FORCED conscription into the Wardens, which we did not ask for. It had ACTUAL power politics, just wow man. :cool_seagull:

And that is a pretty weird way to think, seems like you just want me to accept any bad addition to the game to remain in the target audience.
Who is their target audience that is being alienated?

Well - Obviously I am one of them. I played the all Dragon Age games and all the expansion DLC's (I do not care one bit abut cosmetic stuff, so I exclude these) from the very start with Dragon Age Origins.

I liked all Dragon Age games (yes - that includes Dragon Age 2 + Expansions). Every Dragon Age game was different than the predecessor. Every new Dragon Age game was something you got to get used to. And I fully expect that this new Dragon Age game will follow that same pattern. I honestly see nothing different this time. The new Dragon Age is different than the predecessor, and people moan and "gnashing their teeth" about it. And at the end everyone that is capable to look further then the end of their nose will have a fun time with it, and the game will sell well.

I will surely buy this game. I am sure I will have a fun time with it. I do not think age has anything to do with that (unless you see immaturity as a age guide).

Depending on who you ask Dragon Age has been dead since DA:2. The series' progression has been tumultuous from game 2 and onwards. Particularly gameplaywise as the shift between Origins and 2 was pretty huge. It hasn't been as consistent as, say, each Mass Effect game save for Andromeda.

Edit: not to mention Inquisition going full open world with menial tasks to do and adding a multiplayer mode with microtransactions.

I'd argue that the vision for the series just hasn't been super consistent. What has been consistent, in my opinion, is the quality of the story and the characters. At least I always found characters to enjoy and story moments that resonated with me.

I don't anticipate this game will be any different in that regard even with a new coat of paint that makes Qunari look like handsome squidwards.

I've been out a while as my computer went poof, so only just found out this is finally releasing. Had it on wishlist since it appeared.

I was going to give it a couple of days after release for review before buying, as I usually do, but if this cap is in it, I will have to wait for a finished lets-play first. I buy virtually anything reasonable, but I am not wasting my money on woke bs, no matter how much I love a franchise.

If this gets to the point of being full bore woke, forget it, I'm done with gaming. Last franchise, last straw.

You didn't notice how woke Inquisition was? I find that a bit hard to believe.

Say someone made me a fruit salad. It was delicious.

Next time they make me a fruit salad, it has pears in it. I don't like pears. :P

*I* cannot change their gritty grimy texture. I cannot make them taste less like dirt.

There are things I do not like as a human being. It's not a matter of "Choosing not to be the target audience." They ARE doing it to me when they decide to drastically change the make up of the product they are offering. It's a bait and switch.

I mean, I agree with a lot of what you said and hate all that garbage too - but to me the game still looks fun. So I am holding out hope and have skeptical optimism that it will still be good despite all this crap.

It might suck, but won't know til release or embargo lift.

ah yes, the famous "our product is doing well". you honestly think they would say preorders are poor if that was the case and lose out on investors? is this the modern dragon age fan.
