Having said that, the joy of single player games is that even you can play it exactly the way you want to.
I also could've edited my initial comment to include both the race and the class, but I thought it was too funny to edit xD (I stand by everything I said btw, I was opening my soul in that one)
God forbid you have bad internet connection. I stopped playing multiplayer games years ago.

I'm usually too excited on the day and rush through it and then regret my haste.
Dragon's Dogma 2 did it right.
DA did it with the first game - shame that trend didn't continue.
DD2 did it yea, but unfortunately the game itself wasn't very good :(
Not race locked, just the factions have certain specializations - dwarves as usual can't be mages though.
Nothing boring or lame about playing the default characters. It would be your single player game, play the character you feel most comfortable with.
I dunno what it is, honestly, I've never been one to spend hours in a character creator in ANY game. I just pick a preset and go.
