Is "Rook" seriously the best they could come up with?
The character in 1 and 2 was called Hawke, now it's Rook. It's just another type of bird.
How ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad is their imagination?

The protagonist in DAO was most certainly not Hawke 😭

Another silly post trying to hate on random things that aren’t even bad

I fail to see the issue.
It's just incredibly lazy writing.

You're right, I don't know why I thought it was. It's been a long time since I played those games though.

My point stands for 2 and this though.

The Warden's symbol is a griffon.

It's kinda of a bird.
Maybe that's what I was thinking of, I don't know.

..How is it lazy writing? It's a name. a title.

People call the Inquisitor inky. lol.
The main character lacks any identity in all the games but 2 and a big part of that is the name, or lack there of since Rook, Inquisitor and Warden/Vanguard are not names.

It's almost as if their identity and how they react is entirely up to the player..
But how much of the character do you actually get to control as the player? Not that much, mainly (if not only) their direct relationships with a few companion NPCs.
Either way, it's not impossible to have a character that the player can (at least partially) control the story of while also giving the character a solid identity within the game. It's not like it's super easy, but it's not impossible and Bioware haven't made any effort at all in doing it. They didn't in Inquisitor and it doesn't seem like they did here either.

I think the nickname of Rook has more to do with chess than birds, personally. I guess we'll have to play the game and find out how they get that nickname to know for sure.

If it even is explained how they got it.

There are pretty much 4 options for voice acted games:

1) Have a set main character
2) Have a set name or last name
3) Be identified by title only
4) Never have a speaking character refer to the MC by specific name

It's supposed to be, yeah. I could be misremembering so don't quote me on this but I think I got the impression it varies depending on which faction you pick.

The character's last name is apparently determined by your class and you can choose your first name yourself.
But they're always called Rook, so I don't understand what point there is in having a first and last name anyway.

Well, why does V have a first name?
They don't? They are just called V, which I hate. The character immediately starts off with no identity. Having no name at all would be better because at least the player could fill in but with 1 letter there's no room for imagination because you can't just ignore that they have a 'name' while also having no real backstory or identity, nothing to go off.

Same as in DAI where you were the Herald of Andraste/Inquisitor but still had an actual name based on your race. It helps make your character more distinct based on your faction while still having an easy title/nickname that everyone can use across all factions so they don't need to record the same dialogue 100 different ways. And even still, the last names got some use here and there in DAI and it's supposed to be the same in this game.

I’m more annoyed how M rates games have companion dialogue and quest exposition dumps geared towards children. As in everything is overly enthusiastic and dumbed down like how Dora the Explorer talks to you through your television. I was watching some gameplay last night and yeah… jeez.. what ever happened to M rated games treating you like you have some intelligence? And it’s not just his game, but this game in particular just reminds me of how bad it’s gotten.
What are you talking about? How has this got anything to do with this post?
