Can you be evil?
So is there any answer to this yet? Like I know blood magic is gone, but well anyway to properly rp.

Dialogue options seem to just be tone based (respond jokingly, respond seriously, etc) so I doubt it.

Evil, no. You can be pretty ruthless at some points though.

Nope! The lead writer said they removed Blood Magic because the class was too evil so the narrative is obviously being railroaded towards the good side. So kiss the Role Playing aspect goodbye I guess along with everything else that made Dragon Age good. This game is so going to flop.

Why did they do this, I always loved how grimdark Dragon age was. Kinda like the Berserk of video gaming.

Hey I love blood magic aswell but lets not pretend it was anything more than a subclass. There was never any weight to the choice other then for Connor.

Sure buddy. <3

Anyway, the reason they removed blood magic is because it was literally pointless, especially in a plot perspective. It makes sense for merril to be one because, she IS one, and characters, and the world, react to that. but if YOU choose to be a blood mage, nothing. nothing happens. it's so dumb lol.

Blood magic is unlikely because we've shifted it from a power boost to really being the key to a lot of nasty stuff we aren't interested in having heroes do.

Direct quote from the lead writer of the game. The narrative is being railroaded and the choice is taken from you because the choice is too evil for a hero to make.

Of all things to remember, you choose that?

Yikes. Glad they moved on from that then.
The freedom to do evil stuff is the mark of a good RPG... but of course this isn't an RPG anymore

Which is one of the reasons why Baldur's Gate 3 is so lauded. The new evil endings Larian added were pretty decent.
Did the Dragon Age games ever have a Good/Evil system?

In DA:O you could do whatever you wanted... stabing people and animals really made Morrigan happy
Evil Morrigan was awesome

Not really, you could be pretty ruthless or selfish but it's not like you could side with the Darkspawn (outside of a DA1 DLC where you were one). There was always a bigger threat to deal with than whatever mischief you could get up to.

Did it have an impact on the world or your character? In The Old Republic, if you are evil, your eyes turn orange and if you continue down the path of the dark side, your character becomes Palpatine, similar to the mass effect renegade/paragon system. Does Dragon Age Origin have that?

That's not really a good/evil system. It's moreso, do you wanna do a bad thing, or do a good thing?

It was just an option that was there. There wasn't a whole points system dedicated to it.

I agree ... there was no "evil" option in any Dragon Age or Mass Effect game. You could be a kind hero, a pragmatic hero, or a ruthless hero, but in every instance you were going to be the hero.
Cordeyr Oct 15, 2024 @ 4:33pm
Bioware has always been kinda railroady with morality. You can do evil things but you will be the hero at the end of the story no matter the bodies you stack along the way it all gets explained away as you being pragmatic or cruel.
