Because I saw a lot of clips from the game suggesting otherwise.
It's ok if you like it this way, you don't need to justify that to those of us who don't like how game looks/plays.
Having said that, I don't think that's the real problem that people have with the text. It's not that it's not "dark", it's that it is very safe and refuses to engage in any real moral nuance. The good guys are unambiguously good (even the group of contract killers, somehow), and the bad guys are entirely bad. The previous Dragon Age games were by no means adult, but they still portrayed a certain moral ambiguity to the world and characters that is absent from this entry.
To be clear, I am still having a ton of fun with Veilguard, but please let's not pretend its content is in any way difficult to digest for even a young mind.
Is it that deep…? Probably not, though I’ve rarely felt Dragon Age was super deep in that regard. Sometimes even carelessly shallow (the City Elves/Dalish Elves come to mind). It varies though, and I’ve yet to sit with Veilguard long enough to see if its saying anything.
… But that’s neither here nor there. I still think Veilguard is a bit cleaner than the other games (more or less, that Minrathous scene really just sits with you imo…), I’m just glad that it’s not a whimsical fantasy adventure, and we’re reminded the universe still sucks.
And that makes sense.
Case in point.
Gets even gloomier once you're far enough to explore the Anderfels.
