The explanation is simple: Thousands of people who have played the game and aren't trying to tank the game and the studio with some weird hate agenda enjoy it. They like the game. It's that simple. It's a solid game.
You're seeing a lot of complaints because the hate brigade are working overtime to saturate the forums with threads that speak ill of the game. Why? Because they want BioWare to close down.
So I feel mostly positive about it, but it could have been far better, and deserved to be after 10 years.
Its the same, even the same arguments
Its like they havent changed their copypasta clipboard since jade empire
From what I've seen in reviews, the story and dialogue couldn't be worse. Everything is embarrassing.
About the gameplay, apparently is God of War style combat. Your NPC companions are immortal and you can't use them in combat anymore, like you could in previous Dragon Age titles.
In my case, too many cons. I wouldn't play it even if it was given to me for free.
As someone who is simultaneously a hater myself but also willing to not sweat the small stuff if I'm enjoying the game, I value this sentiment. Like I hated Andromeda, but I didn't mind a couple of bugs on Cyberpunk because it was still playable and hella fun. Currently I have no opinion on Veilguard because I haven't played it yet but it genuinely doesn't look that bad.
But apparently one of the things people seem to take issue with are the "woke" options even in character creation (like vitiligo), but it seems bigoted to care about that. Just like real life, if it doesn't apply to you, let people live and let it go.
Has been genre defining with interactive and immersive storytelling, first, and gameplay second.
Veilguard is cringe garbage story, with some decent action rpg gameplay.
So alot of people who dont come to bioware for story, enjoy the game, but anyone who's ever played a dragon age game for the story elements, will instantly feel alienated.
Beloved characters from previous games reduced to edgy cameos, lore/worldbuilding is nonexistant in the deluge of cringe dialogue that sounds like a bunch of woke college kids time travelled to Thedas.
I think that it's quite normal to have companions that you like or don't like in a game. I think it's weird to judge them based on gender. And instances of dialogue that we personally find cringe probably exists in any game, some more than others.
For my part I'm enjoying it very much and will review it accordingly when I've had time to play more.
The thing is, I am 30 hours in and not come across a single gender or trans conversation. So whilst I am sure this exists, it’s obviously not in your face.
Characters and dialog are trite however, very childish and amateur stuff. You’re spot on there.
From what I know, if you've played for 30 hours, you've either avoided it on purpose or you don't consider the conversation about being non-binary a gender issue. Because as far as I know, you can't avoid Taash (Trash).
