3 games of Qunari ruthlessly hunting down people who try to leave and now we get this?

Sounds like Qunari propaganda.

Did you see that episode of Florida Man where the police ended up putting out an advertisement that they would be happy to test any of your illegal drugs for purity, free of charge?

To be fair, the Qunari did basically entirely implode in DAI so it's not outlandish that things have changed considering the time that has passed.

Also, it's worth noting that many cults do like to think they aren't prisons, even whilst they bury the last apostates to leave their cult.

i doubt the current devs could make that connection

I don't think the game has respected qunari since origin. It's like they completely missed the point of religious extremists.

They were pretty much like that in 2, and quite violent, of course.

2 handled them fine. the doctrine is all that matters... we will bring order to this chaos yadda yadda. Tallis being the "exception" here but she's Ben-hassrath so.. a spy and a liar

even DAI didn't stray too far (since Iron bull is the only one whos really "different", and he's also Ben-Hassrath so his job is to lie so you can't take what he says at face value) with the actual Qunari we deal with outside of bull. the Qun is what matters you follow the Qun or get brainwashed/killed to "fix" you.

so Outside of the 2 Ben-hassrath we intereact with Qunari are pretty damn consistent

Not hard to wrap your head around. Most of the qunari we have come across in other games were zealots. So if you left the Qun you were considered a traitor to them. Plus it is hard to say what would happen if they tried to go back. I assume once you are off the reservation you are off the reservation.

your anti-democratic propaganda has been noted

We know what should happen, and used to happen. At least in origins and DA2.

They are traitors, to be mercilessly hunted down and killed, or brainwashed(re-educated). You don't just leave, and it's all chill, like it's free to do what you want. That's polar opposite of the Qun.

"When Qunari abandon the teachings of Qun they are instantly labeled as Tal-Vashoth and **have to risk life as a fugitive from the Qun**. If they are caught, they are immediately re-educated by the Ben-Hassrath just the same as any other dissident...

Under the Qun, mercenaries are viewed as even worse than bandits because they are perceived to be selling the remains of their soul and honor for coin. "

Always been highly hated by the Qun.

Come to think of it, didn't Isabella suffer horrendous abuse under the Qun?

You would think she'd have something to say about this nonsense.
Well she got character assassinated like pretty much everyone else
