Veilguard Never Loading
Hi. So I haven't seen anyone with my specific issue yet, and I none of the solutions I've seen posted have worked for me. When I open Steam and launch Veilguard, the entire screen goes black and a small purple loading sigil begins to spin in the lower righthand corner. It spins for 2-8 seconds, then freezes. Then nothing ever happens. I've left it like this for over ten minutes and it never did anything. I have Veilguard downloaded on my laptop, a gaming computer with more than enough storage space. I have can successfully play DA:O and DA:2, as well as BG3, so I don't think it's a bandwidth issue. I have deleted other games just to make sure there's extra available RAM. I've verified the files four times. I've deleted the shader cache. I've redownloaded and then redeleted the shader cache. I've run the game as an administrator. I've marked to allow it to run with Windows 8 compatibility. I've updated my computer. I've restarted the computer and Steam multiple times. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. It's now been almost four days and I still can't launch the game. I haven't even seen the title page. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Installed games won't affect ram, while a hdd error would likely return an error. There appears to simply be major holes in the design that never got addressed, what happens when you rush a product. Suggest asking steam for a refund, you can always potentially purchase it in the future, and this will probably have a discount fairly quickly.

I have a similiar issue: Black Screen, purple loading icon, after a few seconds the game closes. No error code, just closes.
Deleting/Emptiing the shader cache solves the issue and I can start the game, but the game never starts the "famous" shader compilation and as the result runs terrible with lags every few seconds.

Really hoping for an offical fix soon, as I doubt this will be fixable for myself alone.

Try disabling hardware acceleration if you have windows 11. Its known to cause problems

I screwed myself by deleting my shader folder because my performance was ass. Now it won't recompile and now my performance is WORSE. I'm going to try to downgrade drivers, recompile, then update it again to recompile.

Edit: Also reinstalled the game. Now it's compiling shaders as expected.

I have windows 11, but for some reason I don't have any settings titled hardware acceleration. I've searched my computer, I've followed the guides on how to find it under my graphics settings. There is just no setting that I can find on my device for hardware acceleration, so I'm not sure how to turn it off. I'd seen this suggestion elsewhere as well and a few people said it helped their issues, but when I open my Graphics settings, the only thing it gives me the option to do is turn on "Optimizations for windowed games" which I've tried. It also does nothing. :(
Did you ever find a fix for this? I was having the same exact issue and hoped the first patch would help, but after installing the patch the game doesn't even launch at all. I'm about to replace my graphics card tomorrow because I have no idea what else could be causing it, I feel like I've tried everything

I had this issue as well. The patcher doesn't indicate this, but my game began working again after I rebooted. It went through the entire shader compilation (ugh) as well.

I've done everything I've found to try and fix the same issue.
I keep getting a DirectX error which is.....something I've done everything to fix and its still not fixed.
This is abysmal.

same problem here, got an RTX4090, i9, 64gb RAM, the game will not start...... Re-intalled it, updated my drivers, nothing works..... This is not a pc problem, it's a game problem, as I ran other 30+ games without any issues on this pc.....

have you try it with just offline start (kill wifi or router)? if that works make shure that you dosent have cloudsaves enabled on steam

Never found a fix. Still isn't working to this day. I've updated every driver, installed the patch, everything. Nothing will get the game to move beyond the purple loading sigil. :(

I just tried this but it did not fix the issue. :( Thank you for the suggestion though!

For me, it swithches between both these issues. The one thing that remains constant is that I never can start the game...

Try verifying your game files. I had the same problem and this worked for me after it reacquired some files. Left click on your game title in your library, then properties, then installed files. Click to verify integrity of files. Hope that helps.
