Is Bellara the worst ever?
We all know DAV is a bad game. And we all know the characters are also all terrible. But is Bellara the most insufferable one of them all? Like every single bad writing decision distilled into one of the most truly awful and boring characters of all time? Everything I’ve seen her in is insufferable and cringe. Why did they make her like that?

Personally, Taash is my worst, the whole politics aside. But in general, I feel that they are all boring characters.

She is a too childishly aggressive to the point of being unintentionally comedic. She is the total opposite of Bull (inqusition) who was aggressive when the situation called for it while having an intelligent and charming wit about him.

Lame lines like "Dragons are cool! Who doesn't like to talk about Dragons?". Seriously?

Yeah, Taash is definitely the worst. I actually started with disliking Bellara, but after finishing her personal quest I like her. The writing for some characters is just bad, banter is also lacking and sometimes childish. Lucanis' is by far has the most interesting personal quest line.

Ok, I have to vent for a moment. The big problem for me (and one of the big examples is Bellara) is what they did to magic overall. Magic used to be pretty simple as a concept in previosu DA's. It's coming from the Fade (realm of the mind), it's addicting, you need strong will to not be tempted by the demons, and usually comes at a cost. In DA2 Merril took almost the entire game to activate an Elluvian and took a great loss at her attempt.

Meanwhile in DAV, the crazy tech-girl comes to one, says she has to recalibrate the matricies and readjust the energy flow and bam, 5 minutes and the Elluvian is working. Easy. Sounds like weird science talk straight out of Doctor Who. Turns out the elven ruins are actually Protoss encampments, and you need additional pylons for doors to move. It became more of a sci-fi than magic.

The change feels like in Harry Potter movies when the director was replaced, and instead of chanting spells and wand movements, all spells turned into coloured lasers.

The same dangers for magic aren't as strong for Northern Thedas. In the South, they literally teach anyone with magic from a very young age to be teeming in negative emotions and suppression to the point they become easier for demons and spirits to attack. A lot of why mages are so susceptible in Southern Thedas is because a religious order has deemed them born wrong, co-opts their enforcement (Templers) and makes them lyrium addicts.

It's the self hate, the fear, when they reject it, the pride, anger, hate. All very demon bait emotions.

Bellara is (to me) very autistic-coded (I'm also autistic), so while I'm not nearly as bubbly as she is, I totally relate to how she's masking her pain and social awkwardness behind an overly bubbly personality. So, no, I don't feel she (or any other companion) is "the worst."
I found her very annoying in the beginning; too overly excited about everything, she almost felt like an anime character. But she kinda grew on me, and towards the end I really liked her.
