I believe the Attack My Target mechanic kicks in when you use the commands at the top of the radial menu. Maybe someone else can confirm that.
Yeah my experience is the same with the attack my target I used a very long boss fight where I was underleveled to test it and yeah. It seems the icons appearing next to the enemy disappear after 30s roughly like the cooldown of the bonus (which is weird too because very few attack my target state that they have a cooldown but they all seem to have the same).
Attack my target might be the weirdest and worst design feature of the game I feel. It's cute on paper but boy is it clunky to use, confusing and very underwhelming in terms of power (the vulnerability one lasts probably 3 seconds top it's so pointless lmao).
Since I wrote my initial post I also founda bout enchanting skills which by the way the game I don't think ever tells you about. And it's unclear if enchants apply to just your skill or to all of them (but I assume it's to just the skill since it makes more sense that way as each skill has en chant they don't necessarily share with others).
