I didn't eve spend that long on mine and was still not too happy about it, so I can just imagine how irritating it probably was for you. If you haven't found the trick though, best thing I have found thus far is to go to the mirror in the lighthouse act like your going to change your character and not change anything and just finalize it without any changes and it will fix your character. Again though it is a pretty lame thing to do every time but until they fix it its the only work around I have found.
I fixed the issues by restarting my PC, starting Steam and the game and my inventory screen shows the correct character again.
The game was patched maybe an hour or so ago, guess that was the problem for me.
I have this exact same issue. It's super frustrating and we should not be having to exit and restart game multiple times or reload the same saves so many times to get the correct character models! I miss the days when a game would release with no bugs requiring constant patching. I hope the devs are actually working on a patch for this.
i saw someone on reddit with that porblem he solved it without loading by just take another hat (one where the whole head get covered) and take it off again.
Some mentioned that the change mirror change the appearence back if only use and exit it.
its still bad but atleast no loading savegame each time
