Choosing button icons regardless of which controller is being used really should be a standard by now. Genuinely surprised they didn't make it an option considering recent AAA releases have them. RE4, SH2, FFXVI, just to name a few.
So the steps are:
Having the controller plugged in
-disable Steam input
-launch and enable DS4windows with a DS4 profile
-launch Dragon Age
-once the DS4 icons start to show in game, stop DS4Windows and enable Steam Input
It is a bit unstable, sometimes in game the Xbox icons will display for a split seconds, and I expect that this may stop working after some random update but it does the trick for now ans is not too tedious.
