It's not bad as an action game, but as an RPG...
I played this game on the EA platform, so I don’t have it on Steam, as I only paid for a subscription. I’ve put in about six hours so far.

The combat in this game is actually decent. It feels fun for now, but I think it might get repetitive since it isn’t complex enough. It’s dynamic and fast-paced but relatively easy, and I don’t see it posing much of a challenge to most players. It does feel better than Inquisition, though. I’m not comparing it to Origins because, at this point, it feels like a different genre.

The main story seems fine, but... there’s a big “but.”

The dialogue is, more often than not, terrible. The characters feel like they lack personalities—it's more that they just talk about their personalities. It's "tell, don’t show" all over again. Nearly every conversation feels like the characters are just "yes-manning" me. Even those who disagree with decisions seem to change their minds right away. It doesn’t feel natural; it’s more like everyone is trying to avoid saying anything negative.

Dialog options are basically nonexistent, and every conversation leads to the same outcome. The plot feels contrived, with characters showing up only when needed to push the plot forward. It feels more like a superhero movie than a game that immerses you in a fantasy world. It feels like world don't exist outside of player actions.

I don’t want to bring politics into this—I’m here for good storytelling. But it feels like the current writing team lacks the talent and passion for crafting fantasy worlds; they seem more focused on the real world, which players are often looking to escape from.

And forget about items that do anything beyond changing your armor or damage stats; every item feels the same. Inventory management is nonexistent.

This is no longer an RPG—it’s, at best, an average Action Adventure game. If I rated it as an RPG, it’d be a 4/10; as an Action game, maybe a 7-8/10, depending on whether combat eventually gets repetitive. I enjoy both genres, but it’s disappointing to see BioWare fall from its RPG-making heights.

And for those who debate game sales—this game is selling on legacy alone. The true reflection of its impact will be seen with BioWare's next "RPG" release.

100% agree, Its a decent even good adction adventure game with RPG elements. But has no "larger world" feeling. Nothing seemed epic enough. I tried it on my Kids EA sub as well, glad i didnt spend 90 bucks

Yeah, that's kind of the vibes I've been getting watching different parts. Bioware being ashamed of the RPG tag again for some stupid reason.

I'd up the difficulty if you feel it's repetitive. On higher difficulties you start to handle each engagement a little differently.

Characters feel like they have a LOT of personality so far. At no point did I feel like they were 'yes-manning' me. I inadvertently pissed a few off, actually.

I have no idea what you mean about the devs not being able to craft a fantasy world. This team seems to be further pulling themselves away from generic grounded fantasy into their own identity. As a fan of DAO I love this new direction. DA seems more unique than ever.

It's an action RPG. It's a mix of both worlds. If you came in expecting otherwise then blame your expectations.

I can't wait to spend the weekend in this world.

Thanks. the only things that makes me mad are people who said story ou dialogue are not important in a rpg or don't admit that being both bad is a fact, no an opinion.

I like the combat and action - It feels more polished than DAI - But man the Dialogue is cringe bad - Like Mass Effect Andromeda bad.

Well said. I agree

The game wasn't a rpg a long time ago. Origins was the only time the series was a true rpg.
DA2 and Inquisition it was an action rpg, like it is now.

I preffer CRPGS and Origins is my favorite of this series, but this new Dragon Age game is still miles more enjoyable than the horrible Inquisition and the dissapointing Dragon Age 2.

The last 3 games in the series have been action rpgs and not just an rpg, they stopped being an full rpg after Origins.

Other than the dialogue being meh, I am having a good time, its way better than I expected it to be. But I also knew it wasn't magically going to turn back into what Origins was after DA2 and Inquisition where action rpgs.

Origins > Veilguard > DA2 > Inquisition

Yeah DA2 was a huge pivot from 1.
