Character loading incorrectly (update)

Is anyone else running into the issue of loading in and it's a completely different default Rook than the custom character they created? It's happened 3 different times and now I'm in an area where I cannot return to the Lighthouse to fix it via the mirror. I'm absolutely livid and sick of this problem. It's made the experience damn near unenjoyable. I love this game so far and love the series. I get this is literally day of release but jfc what a bad bug. It's happened to a few friends of mine but we have no idea where to even report the issue to BioWare directly.

UPDATE: So basically do not trust your auto saves! Load in with a direct save you created. Auto saves can't be trusted right now with loading your custom Rook. So save save save!

The official EA forum has a section for Veilguard technical issues, and has several entries of this happening.

It seems the most recent save is the only really reliable one, but you may have to completely close out of the game and restart it several times for it to load the character correctly.

I'm having this same issue right now orz i made an alternate save so i could flirt with everyone without committing yet but now i cant load anything lol

I'm sure a patch will come out soon but man, what a bug!

Yeah I've been doing exactly this and still not working for me. Right now I'm at the point of not even wanting to touch the game until the issue is addressed and resolved. Glad I'm not the only one but what a terrible bug.

I had the same issue. What worked instantly for me was going to the mirror of transformation (in which my custom rook was shown) and accepting that appearance without making changes. Then it loaded my custom Rook into the game.
Not ideal, but at least I didn't have to go through the five minute hassle of restarting the game, compiling shaders and risking a loading error every time waiting for the game to use my custom Rook. Can't wait for the bug fix.

I have also had this issue. I did find that if you go to the mirror of transformation, you can load your custom Rook there. It's worked for me every time. It doesn't help when you're in the middle of an active mission though.

I'm really hoping they get that patched soon. It's jarring lol

Happening to me as well and your update is not helping me. I have made a hard save when my Rook was looking normal yesterday. And reloading that direct save still makes him load bald and with wrong face so sadly it's not a solution :(

I had the same issue, but restarting the game resolved it. It happens most often on reloads.

Also having the same issue. I tried loading a non auto save and the bug still happened. I'm in an active mission so I can't go back to the lighthouse to change my appearance. Have to exit out of the game and load completely back in for the bug to go away. Really hope they patch this soon.

I've run into this issue twice now. First time it did it upon load, second time everything was great until I went into a dialogue scene and it suddenly switched to a default rook. Tried to go to lighthouse and fix it at the mirror but my custom rook didn't even show up there. Had to restart the game and load several times (manual and auto saves) for it to go back :/ idk how they missed such a bad bug

Not everyone has the ability or money to do this. Right now we can only do work arounds until this is resolved for the average user. Some only have an SSD for OS operations and processes, like myself.

Not to mention if he takes 15 min to read the forums he would see its even people with SSD's

Functionally SSD dont load data different from HDD's, they just do it faster. this new SSD requirement in the industry is to cover up lazy coding

They not even cost that much anymore
1tb ssd 50$. 1tb nmve 80$.
i saw people who still plays on hdd drive claiming they have no money for an ssd but having and gpu for 800$, yeah.

and only speaking for myself playing with an nmve drive, 0 problems.

same issue here he loaded to some indian looking person (the default rook?) theres some fundamental wrong programming in that part, like why is there even "default" are our appearances like clothes? the default should be the character we make in character creation

I am playing on a ssd and have this problem in the world and now in the character menu when I want to change gear. I load from real saves and the mirror trick does not work for me on either issue.

My game performed just fine whenever I verified Files. It's usually my go-to whenever an Update hits for any game and I have issues right out of the Box. Might be worth a Shot.

I play it off of my HDD, even though I do have an SSD and it plays fine. Once Steam verified file integrity it reported the game had 6 files that were needing to be reacquired.
