An honest metric for measuring success...
...Black Myth: Wukong was a brand new, untested IP, maligned pretty hard by established Games Journalists.
Peak players landed at a bit over 2.4 million players.

DragonAge: Veilguard is an established and well regarded IP with a legion of fans and the game itself has garnered very positive reviews from the press.

I have no skin in the game btw.
However I don't think it is unfair to say for the game to be seen to be doing well, it should double BlackMyth numbers.

I think if this reaches peak numbers of 5 million in the first 4 weeks we can firmly say this can be considered both a critical and commercial success.

Though I suspect the financial suits at Bioware will be looking for and expecting/needing numbers in excess of 5 million (PC users btw).

I'll check back in a month and see!

My brother in Christ, China does not have Steam. The enormous player count is not simply millions of people risking long prison terms to use a VPN and get Black Myth. And because all Chinese would have had to use a VPN to get the game, it is literally impossible to prove or disprove that Chinese players were the majority or a minority of the player count.

Uhhh, Steam is not banned in China, it's restricted but it is far from banned and they absolutely played a massive role and you can tell this from the time of the peak player counts as it was during peak China playtime

Ah, my mistake. They finally made a special version of Steam that fit the regulations.

But Black Myth Wukong is NOT available on China's version of Steam. So what I said about VPN's and purchasing of Black Myth holds true.

Not sure "but China....." is a valid argument. Yes, there are a lot of consumers there.
...but so does Europe, North America and Indeed the rest if the planet.

Not only is it available on China Steam, it's like half-price.

And it has almost no competition because almost everything else is banned.

It absolutely is available in China lmfao, use Google, this is not hard, the game is literally China's first AAA game, they estimate 80% of the game's sales are from China

...in any respects thank you for your constructive insight.
This is an attention seeking exercise, not a thought exercise. At least don't try to mask your desperate actions with some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, champ, it adds a layer of pathetic that isn't necessary.
Sorry you think that way "Champ", but this was simply a way to "cut through noise" and determine a level of sucess other than juvenile knee jerk reactions. Sorry that this seems to have disturbed your day.
And with a eye to reducing aforementioned "noise" you are now blocked.
I hope the rest of your day improves.

I'm sorry you thought this paragraph was convincing lmfao, this is you seeking attention, it's cut and dry. It's not my interpretation, it's fact, I hope you get the attention you clearly want, but I know you're not blocking me because then that would be counter intuitive to what you're seeking, maybe some day you'll have the strength to at least be honest with yourself.

Basing success on an extrapolation against what is likely an outlier tier performance of concurrent players accomplished by one other game seems like the opposite of "not unfair".

LOL, nope most of its sales were not in china it is because its a bloody good game, the reason journalists went nuclear on them is because they flat out refused to have anything to do with sweet baby inc, so that meant they were anti whatever right ?, no it just meant they were not going to change their vision and the lore of the book to panda to anyone, people have got to realise that this minority that scream and shout so loud are a very small percent of gamers, change it for them and the massive percentage of other gamers will not buy it full stop, it needs to stop.

Yep.

"The lion’s share of Black Myth: Wukong’s sales are domestic, given that over 90% of all user reviews are written in Chinese and that the peak player count occurs during local time."
