"Unwoke" Games

So this game has a train of people saying it's bad because it is "woke". This seems to be a recent thing because all previous DA games could be pretty gay if you chose it.


Obviously the term woke is being used for anything people don't agree with, but what games are considered "unwoke" these days?

Unwoke? Hmm.

Only one I can think of is normal games where they somehow managed to tick off the 'woke' type crowd from America. Kingdom Come Deliverance was one of these because the head of the studio argued with one or more of these people regarding the diversity in Poland at the time (in that he correctly made it historically accurate, which somehow bothered them and they tried to claim otherwise)

So Kingdom Come Deliverance by this logic could be considered "unwoke" in that it doesn't deviate from historical accuracy just to please certain crowds of potential customers.

Red Dead Redemption 1/2 and The Witcher 3.

It's all about one characters questline, less about two genders romancing. No one has a problem with Liara x Femshep. Just imagine one of those Mass Effect loyalty missions being 6 missions long and all they can talk about is their pronouns. Thankfully this game gives you the option to skip cutscenes, which mostly everyone will be doing.

Any game that won't tape your character's eyes open and tie your character to a chair to watch instructional videos that have nothing to do with the story.

BG3 wasn't woke. The player decided on the extra content outside the main story.

I posted this in another thread so the context may be just a little off but these are some of examples of what make things "woke".....

While I'd agree that woke can be an overly vague term I can give you some examples of things that are commonly used to "own the chuds" that are, in fact, not woke:
The inclusion of minorities in a game.
The inclusion of women in a game.
The inclusion of LGBTQ stuff in a game.
The inclusion of in game politics in a game.

Where you start running into "woke" elements is when:
The minorities are portrayed as completely faultless, better than everyone else and incapable of being themselves racist or bigoted on the basis of their skin color.
The woman are imbued with great power while having to do nothing to earn it and speak down to everyone around them.
The LGBTQ member is presented in the context of modern day politics in a situation or setting in which it makes no sense whatsoever. See the trans Quinari in Veilguard announcing that it is non-binary using current day language and concepts in a setting in which it has never existed.
The inclusion of current day politics especially current political figures IE Trump, Biden or Harris or caricatures thereof.
Also please note I'm not posting this in an accusatory tone. Just trying to provide some clarification.

Woke, at this point, has lost its meaning. Woke isn't gay characters being in a game. It's not Krem in Inquisition. Woke is obvious pandering in a game, with no consideration of its setting. I don't know how they did it, but this level of pandering is insane. But, I mean, despite all that, they removed the ability to be mean, they removed the texture from everyone's faces, they removed sexual preferences (yah, I know this is a hot topic and people prefer having all open options, but it was interesting to have Dorian JUST be gay and Solas only prefer elven women. Not a lot of games are brave enough to pull this off), they babified every facet of the game, they made the most awkward, unnatural dialogue conversations possible. Does anything from Inquisition even carry over? With how much they've inserted here, I can't even consider this a Dragon Age game anymore.

I'm mass venting but damn, I was just looking forward to the same old Dragon Age, and we got this. A real bummer.

I agree with everyone else though, there's a wrong and right way to explore themes, and we see it done well in a ton of other games. Then, there's just bad writing.

Space Marine 2 had loads of people on its board prior to launch swearing it was going to be totally woke. There aren't many games that don't get hate before they're out from the anti-woke crowd.
