DEI Discussion
People don't dislike when games have a gay person or a black person in the game. When a game has these characters incidentally and it makes sense within the world it is understandable as it was in BG3.

What people *dont* like is when a game leans on its representation as its core feature. Having a black person or gay person doesnt make a game good in and of itself. If you're on board with this representation, you should want games to be made well as well as representing characters and ideologies from differing viewpoints. However what tends to happen more often than not is that games are made either of middling or poor quality, but it has representation in order to garner good reviews since it might align with the general cultural zeitgeist.

So when people are "anti-woke", it's just shorthand for saying "these developers didn't/couldn't make a good game so they made their game very visibly pandering to diversity in order to shield it from criticism". All that said, I hope this title is good.

EA does not care about anyones cause or struggle. Their goal is to take your money. If it butchers a franchise, fine, they made their quarterly profits.

So how does this game have representation as a core feature ? Because of character creation options ?

Because it's blatant trans propaganda. Trans ideology is inherently nonsensical and false so having a game that's basically a platform for spreading it is off-putting. This game isn't art, it's not entertainment, it's a vehicle for dogma.

Yes but they are running out of IPs to corpse puppeteer. I'm still salty about EA closing Visceral, and I'll never forgive them.

Here we go again with the BG3 isn't woke nonsense, when that forum was as bad as this one with the moaning, probably much worse, when it came out.

I didn't say BG3 wasn't woke. It was. However, it was also a good game apart from that.

It's the same logic for them. Pressed the Randomise option and got some Dark Souls Shrek-like abomination and shout "omg look at these ♥♥♥♥ character models". Just cause you have the option doesn't mean you have to use it.

I didn't say I did. I hope it's good. I'm just framing the discussion because people like you start flailing wildly emotionally.

Gay and black people do not need their existence justified.
Nobody asks justification for a white, straight character.

They are there because they exist. Nothing incidental about it.

All reviews thus far have described the combat (the part I like) as boring, even in the glowing IGN review. However a good portion of the positive reviews also gush about the representation. Since dev time resources are finite, I can tell that more thought was put into making the game representative than making it fun. This is a heuristic gleaned from being conned into playing many games who use representation as a core feature.
