Somewhere in literary heaven, a gathering of legends is unfolding. Tolkien glances over at Herbert, raising an eyebrow, while Robert Jordan leans in with a knowing grin. They listen intently as the latest triumphant verses from the mortal realm echo through eternity.

This is not just any writing. It’s the kind that makes the titans of literature—the dead masters themselves—sit up in reverence and awe.

Rook: Lace, listen. You’re not alone. Whatever’s out there, we’ll face it together. I promise. Together.
Harding: I… I could kiss you right now. I’m going to kiss you right now.

Rook: Lace, there’s, um… something we might need to… it’s your, um… magic…
Harding: Rook?? 

Rook: You make the world spin, Lace Harding.
Harding: Rook! Lyrium!!! It’s like, I’m infused WITH Lyrium!!

Rook: I… noticed it when we touched. That night, when we… talked about your dreams.
Harding: You KNEW? You KNEW and you still kissed me?! 

Rook: (laughs). Wow… I feel drunk…
Harding: Yeah… it’s because I turned your head into mush!!

Rook: Or it’s love… 
Harding: you boob! This is not funny! Okay, I’ll fix it! I, I promise. I will find a way and I will fix it. Okay? Okay?? Urghhh, damn it, no! Don’t touch me!

As a mortal man, I am also humbled, enlightened, and inspired.

Comparing Veilguard to a simple banter from BG2:

Minsc: Flowers are beautiful, aren't they, Boo? I wish there were more to see.
Cernd: I see you have an appreciation for the small things, Minsc. You see the power in their simple nature.
Minsc: I don't understand much that is complicated, but the trees and the flowers are music to my eyes. Boo prefers the calm of the forest, though he suffers my company.
Cernd: So, you are his tree amidst the cities and people, and despite your bending and bowing in the wind, you are his stability, as I suspect he is yours.
Minsc: No, he is my hamster. You talk in circles, Cernd, but that's okay. Boo runs in them.

The comparisons to Twilight, Marvel, etc. almost seem generous. At least I get a chuckle out of some of the older Marvel dialogue when watching it with my son (End Game / Prior Movies, not the more recent ones).

could be your age I get that. That being said I also grew up playing crash bandicoot and sonic or tomb raider on the ps1. Those games also had cringe dialogue. Its been like this for quite awhile. That's what happens when you have 4-5 dialogue routes or options for every conversation that triggers. You should expect homebrew DnD levels of intellect. I wish we could get Larian Studios level of quality but that is not expected.

Art? Well..okay, let me see how I can defend this. How dare you say that about someone who put 100s of hours into typing dialogue into a script. This is their work. Passion. Love. You can't just say all this about someones work.

Who wrote this pile of dung? The lead programmer's teenage daughter? It's as if game industry writers all come with zero life experience and literary orientation, with their only source of inspiration being the worst of modern TV.

Yeah, I've gone from 2 color monitors when gaming and some of the original consoles, in my youth. The sad thing is, many games seem to be regressing lately.

Sure there's always exceptions. But the state of the industry has gone downhill the past 5-10 years seemingly.

Games just don't have the depth, the graphics when compared to older titles don't seem to be advancing (like someone referencing the Arkham games from 10 years ago vs. what we get now), the story quality is suffering, etc.

Or a lot of the times we see games excelling in only 1-2 areas instead of across the board (e.g. great gameplay or good story but with bad graphics, or graphically great but with a bad gameplay loop, etc.).
