How would you rank companion questlines?
After finishing most of them near the end of the game now, I felt like making a little tier list, curious about how other people seen it though.
-------
S tier: Davrin (because of Assan) - Felt really good all the way through even if I did not like Davrin on the very first meeting, decent final boss and areas

A tier: Lucanis - Very predictable but satisfying questline, along with Davrin also best written companion I would say, cool bosses and areas it took us to

B tier: Neve - Still good writing overall I'd say, the story itself felt pretty good and the characters met were fine, but it felt like the "closure" we get at the end was just bland and not very "closing", final boss was terrible

C tier: Bellara - Don't like her character or her writing, but the story itself was pretty decent even if it wasted a lot of opportunities, final boss was fine, areas meh

D tier: Emmrich - I don't know how they managed to make a necromancer companion boring but they did, I found him just ackward and not very engaging, his storyline was intense scooby doo episode, villain came straight from Disneyverse

Harding - Writing so basic and boring it hurts, some cool areas, bad bossfights, no emotional attachment to the character, highly predictable questline from the first moment

F tier: Taash - Absolutely insufferable. The only value about her entire questline was found in the fact I got to fight more dragons, her areas were bland, her character is the kind of LGBTQ+ person people imagine under the stereotype of what even LGBTQ+ community finds insulting, when it comes to her plotline, she really for the majority of time doesn't even have one, just remembers she should get one in the final quest, until then you're just stroking her ego and watch her act like an overgrown child toward everyone, if this character didn't exist, the game would actually be better for it
-------

All in all I enjoyed 3 questlines, found 1 not too enjoyable, and really hated the remaining 2, doing them just to get them out of my way.

1. Taash (for all the reasons you mention which are positive for me, their storyline is really relatable and moving).
2. Lucanis (excellent supporting characters in the crows and I love me a good story of vengeance).
3. Neve (she is just very cool as a character and that makes her storyline even more enjoyable).
4. Davrin (I just wished for a little more focus on him rather than Assan especially because he is my option to romance)
5. Bellara (she is a lovely babbler and needed a more fleshed out story).
6. Harding (very forgettable and vague)

-. Emmrich - haven't done it yet.

I admit that is probably the main reason I liked his questline more, I didn't like Davrin much when I first met him and he didn't grow on me himself that much, but Assan had very genuine doggo companion energy and so of course I would see all of Thedas burn if it meant a happy squawk from the boi.

#1: Harding: I can't believe you guys didn't like Harding's quest. I absolutely LOVED it. The dwarves, the scenery, the details, the lore. I just could not get enough of it. I was so excited to see where it went. I wish they had added some of the stuff from the DAI dlc, but I was very happy with what I got.

#2: Darwin: I liked his mission a lot too because it kept me curious. I kind of guessed what it was before they told me, but it was still a fun mystery. I loved everything about it and especially Assan. He had a good and memorable mission.

#3: Emerich: His is third because I absolutely hated his villain. They just felt too much like a cartoon villain. His villain was just so cliche and kind of ruined it for me whenever she was speaking. Not the best dialog and the look overall was just tired. I liked all of Emerich's parts though, which is why it's three.

#4: Lucanis: I really liked his too..but again it was predictable. Obvious bad guy is obvious bad guy. I knew how it was going to end and that ruined a lot of it for me. It was still fun to do and I like the bosses that were in his fights. So yeah..

#5: Taash: I know everyone hates her. I don't hate them personally. I did dislike them a lot at the start and their mission on learning who they are was done very poorly. However, they grew on me in the end and I feel like they learned a lot and grows to become a better person in the end.

#6: Neve: I had to edit, completely forgot about Neve and that alone tells you why she's so low. Again, I forgot her main story because she was too connected the the Minrathous stuff. To the point that I forgot her other missione existed. I feel like they just pulled her villain out of nowhere. I could be remembering wrong though.

#7: Bellaris: I hate her mission purely because they take so long to get to it. Maybe that's a me problem, but it feels like they took so long to get to it, that I forgot what her problem was. Then it all rushed up to finish and it was just so dull and lacking. I couldn't find an emotional connection at all. At least with Taash, you can see how much they and their mom love each other. I didn't get anything from Bellara's mission. In the end, I didn't really care about what happened.

I have to say I feel that the "they took forever to get to it" is not just Bellara situation. I felt like for 40-50 hours companions just kind of forgot to involve Rook in their lives, and then suddenly, chapter 9 & 10 hit, and I gotta spend 20 hours doing sidequests that the game just backloaded somewhere and remembered "oh, the companions should have stories" suddenly. This played a huge part in my lesser enjoyment of the quests because the pacing was incredibly poor. It wasn't like in Mass Effect where my storyline goes in one line, and the companions' ones go along it, it felt more like they forced it too much into my story, especially with the constant "We have to deal with our own ♥♥♥♥" in chapter 9 & 10", where I was like "Okay, why weren't any of you dealing with it at all until now? We literally had more time before, now we don't, narratively".

Ikr! That bothered me so much, it really made it hard for me to connect with some of their stories. I felt like while they all had that, Bellara got it the worse. Her story is supposed to be so emotional, but it just wasn't for me. I forgot about it, rhen remembered, and didn't care.

I love every companion quest, even my lowest rank is still the lowest of great for me.

1. Harding: Her story hooked me since before the possession thing, the happy silly time we spent there is so imprinted in my mind. And after that, the lore, the almost turn evil thing, it's just *chef kiss* for me. I really like her too, she's my romance before I met Lucanis, so that's why I kinda into that final moment at the end of her questline, to try to make her stay herself.

2. Bellara: Oh, I'm so addicted to family drama, and hers is really done right at the first mission. All I know about her is the quirky thing, the positive vibes, and then bam, she lost someone very important in a way that she goes hard on herself even when it's not her fault. The hard decision to go full on it or stay forever in the past, the closure, the future, everything is so great to me.

3. Taash: This is so bias of me cause I also feel like I'm stuck in the middle of everything. Even when we know what we want to do or be in our life, it's still hard to do it sometimes, and when we have this question run over and over in our head, it's not good at all. So their questline really resonate with me.

4. Lucanis: He's my love. I can fix him. Period. Ahahahah.

5. Emmrich: Love, Death and Manfred. Silly little senior citizen with his quest for eternal life. His talk about life and death is kinda good. But i don't vibe with the antagonist in his storyline that much, Manfred did play more role in his decision more.

6. Neve: I didn't save her city, so she's kinda goes as she please without me influencing her that much. And the fact that she went hardened, she'll do anything, and still be a detective behind the scene is kinda weird to me. I really thought she gonna go full bloodlust and end things right then and there. I still enjoy her as a character tho.

7. Davrin: I love him and Assan, especially Assan. But this is the only questline that feels like it should takes days at most. Like, what is the reason the antagonist took so long to do things when they literally teleport a dozen griffon to somewhere else in the first mission. But the down side is just that tho, the journey of them both is so good.

1. Lucanis (great vibes, coherent plot, cool dude, loved the Butcher)
2. Emmerich (great subversions, fun vibes, cool final choice)
3. Davrin (love griffons, cool lore, nice character arc)
4. Bellara (didn't love Bellara but I enjoyed the twists and the family conflict)
5. Neve (enjoyed the overall vibe and the darkness at the end, but the plot didn't build very consistently imo)
6. Harding (loved the lore and settings, but the ending felt vague and not built up to)
7. Taash (I liked the character dynamics and arc, but the plot didn't build smoothly and the conflicts and perspectives felt poorly integrated into the setting)

Emmerich er by far the best.

What about Assan and Manfred? I personally like them the same. I thought I wouldn't like Fred because of his design, but I adore him. Plus he lets me win at rock, paper, and scissors.

Lucanis, Emmerich, Davrin. Just liked the theme better.
