Dragon Age™: The Veilguard

Dragon Age™: The Veilguard

So shallow that elves are now humans with pointy ears.
This was not a thing in the previous games. If you were an elf you were very clearly treated differently.
In Veilguard you walk around like its nothing. You can even play Qunari and walk around the Antaam and no reaction.

I enjoy the game but when you take a step back you can really see how shallow the game is and why it won't stand the test of time.

Veilguard definitely does not feel grimdark enough. Most everyone agrees that this entry pales in comparison to DA:O. And I'm pretty sure most everyone agrees that this game has substantial flaws and is far from a masterpiece. I still like it better than DA:I and probably DA2, too. The amount of reused locations and assets with DA2 was just too absurd and immersion breaking.

This game looks pretty fantastic so it's a real tragedy it didn't have stronger writing.
You get a little bit of racial tension with Bellara and your Rook if you're elven with Harding. However, what little is there gets blotted out by your elf having almost no knowledge of the elven pantheon because they feel like they need to lore dump for newbies.

It is really weird playing as a Qunari and having the world not react to you being a Qunari under Antaam occupation. The weird thing is in Taash's personal story there's a line about how they act like Taash could switch sides at any moment, and it's like the locals could have fooled me. I doubt Treviso is a city without ignorance. Tevinter also fought an infamous war with the Qun, and yet all these Venatori that are seeking to restore the glory of old Tevinter have nothing to say to my Qunari? Odd.

This game just really doesn't want you to come to your own conclusions, and I also think that's why some people have such bad takes on the older games, or played them and still have questionable views.

This is not how you fix media literacy. The hand holding and talking to us like we're very stupid does get really annoying at times. It's like they don't trust that you have any kind of emotional intelligence at all. A moron getting something wrong or missing an important message is way better than having those of us that aren't be talked to like we're also morons.

There's a lot I like about this game, but the telling instead of showing part is really something they need to work on.
The Qunari in this game are just humans with horns. If you want to see what a real Qunari looks like, play Dragon Age 2—they nailed the design there, not here.

The ending sequence of the game and a few of the zones, particularly the underground dwarven city, were the only thing I found impressive and grimdark.

The only real merit the rest of the game has is the massive lore dump in this game. Everything else is average at best.

Sounds like you hated everything about this game but you are also HR.
Sounds like you're the person I was talking about.

Zero reading comprehension. Needs to have their hand held at every point and things carefully explained to them in the most unsubtle way possible. Cannot tolerate nuance. Wasting everybody's time.

Yeah it's pretty strange how defensive people seem over Veilguard. Origins is a really dated game but does everything better as an RPG.

The devs also abandoned Veilguard already as there will be no DLCs.
