Issues aiming abilities

I'm having issues with the aiming of certain abilities, like Meteor or Ice Blast, especially while facing many enemies at the same time.
Sometimes, even though I'm locked onto one enemy, casting Meteor will have it drop to another enemy altogether, sometimes it even casts onto enemy corpses or nearby destructibles like health pots.
I really like the combat, but this makes it very frustrating sometimes, anyone else have the same issue?

I'm playing as a mage, with controller btw.

Use your stick to change target when you're on the ability menu. I just completed the game on Underdog and now I'm going in for a Nightmare run.

I am having the exact same issue and am using the lock feature and target an enemy in the distance but it just targets the closest or something. Did you fix it? I am on ps5 btw. Look at 34 sec: https://youtu.be/qN1jQTUrbe4?si=OJGN3Ik7a7Rct01m

Sadly I never found a fix, the problem is the exact same as your video and I'm on PC.
I think using the wheel to select abilities works a bit better, but I try to use it as little as possible to keep the flow of combat and for the added challenge.
