I'm guessing they indulged in the Grey Warden meat head fantasy too long to actually absorb any of the lore outside of that.
It's sad, because you have two types here. One is the mass troll/hate army that attacks any game that falls under what they deem as "woke."

And then you have the people who if these attacks weren't happening, would have played Veilguard and may not have found it perfect, but they'd have enjoyed where it took a lot of things instead of letting manufactured hate tell them what they shouldn't play, what games they shouldn't like.
They're just sabotaging themselves and that's what makes them sad.

Valid criticque is not a manufactured hate, noone is entitled to spent their money and free time on a game that disregards everything that they liked in previous titles. Writing, player agency, overall tone.
BG3 had a lot of wokness and I bet there were many "hate posts" about it too, yet that game was overwhelming success, beacuse at it's core it a amazing RPG.

I actually had a really cool discussion recently about how ancient elves would view gender, since they came from spirits which are just... emotional concepts floating in the ether. the elven language, however, does differentiate between genders (lethallan / lethallin / lethallen - feminine, masculine, neuter+plural respectively). so, at some point, ancient elves must have had thoughts about the concept of gender and they adapted their language to it. i wonder how being formerly genderless and "discovering" gender later, with their bodies, influenced their views on sexuality and gender roles. it's a cool idea to play around with.
