Spam Dodging Tough Fights
I just finished my first God fight, and my quest journal is filled with Champion fights.

I keep putting them off because every tough fight is just me spam dodging while waiting for my frost rune or my companions' skills to be ready.

Do any players with more skill than me have tips to be more actively engaged in fights instead of just being a jumping target?

Duel-blade rogue, if that matters.

On the one hand, Davrin and Taash can temporarily taunt enemies away from you. On the other hand, one of the things that your difficulty level determines is just how aggressive enemies are. Beyond that, I'm afraid I haven't gone through the game as a dual blade rogue yet so I can't give any build-specific tips yet.

Are you under leveled when you face the champions? Levels make a big difference when fighting them. I am going through as a Duelist as well right now. I find that if I can parry the attack, I am able to get off a pretty decent combo. In between dodges, I am also able to fire quick bow shots.

Make sure you're using your abilities I-Frames when you can. You can use your abilities to continue to do damage without taking any. Assuming you're running Toxic Dash, I like to use that to dash through dangerous area's rather than dodge. For bigger monsters, I'll use Hurricane of Blades as its an area attack and monsters, such as dragons, seem to have multiple hit boxes.

For the champions, take companions that are strong against them, each of them having an elemental weakness. The final champion before the big crossroads fight, is weak to fire.

Let me know if this helps.

Being able to parry them really helps, most attacks are parryable but might require to practise the move patterns of the opponent for a bit (lots of enemies have similar move patterns tho so you only need to learn a few of them).

Otherwise you could go with that ring that makes your abilities always crit which you can get very easily in the fade where you need to kill 50 dark spawn to open the chest. Combine that with the amulet which restores energy on critical hits on purple rarity (can get that as soon as you reach Treviso) and you can just spam the duelist spec ability forever (which also results in perma iframes). It's kinda boring tho.

I feel you on this.

I made three characters, one of each class, to see how they are. As person who has always gone tanky warrior, I think the warrior class is the best of the three. I can get in the thick of a fight, parry, block with a shield, take more hits, etc.

As a rogue I feel like while I can't block because I don't have a shield, I can parry the best. And I get to use all kinds of speed and contraptions and bombs to get in a strike-strike-strike-combo and flip out of harm's way to assess before making another move. So, I like the rogue too. It's different from warrior but not so far removed from my usual play style that I can't work with it.

Now, the mage is a challenge for me. I do like that compared to mage combat in Inquisition, I'm not stuck on the edges of battle twirling my stick and casting. I can actually get in the thick of it with a mage in Veilguard, and that's awesome. However, the mage is the squishiest of the three classes, and the aggro is brutal at times. So, it's difficult for me to battle up close, which is what I love as a tank. In the end, I decided to remake my mage into a warrior right after we gained Lucanis on the team. I imported her into the character creator and just changed her class, then started her over. I simply couldn't get use to feeling like I was made of tissue paper in a fight. I also knew that there were going to be some very hard battles coming further in the game, and it would be frustrating to face them as a mage.

For Rogue combat, I suggest unlocking Turrets and anything that allows you to set traps/bombs. Also, like someone else mentioned, you can use Davrin and Taash to take some of the heat off you for a moment. Just take your time with the rogue. Do a few hits or combo, then flip out of the middle of the fight. Concentrate your team's attacks on the tankiest enemy in a non-boss horde, using primers and detonators.

Oh, and if you haven't found the Iron Veil helm, GET IT. It's in Arlathan Forest in a chest locked on an island in a lake. You'll have to use those laser gun things on three pyramids on the island to unlock the force field and fight the guy to get the chest. I'm not gonna say too much in case you haven't gotten there. Anyway, that helm is awesome. When you kill an enemy, a green necrotic spirit spawns and shoots at a random other enemy, doing good damage. Essentially, you can have another way to passive attack enemies, and it's so awesome for a rogue to have.

I was kind of considering making all three characters warriors, but having gotten my Rogue more leveled (Eredor is currently level 24) and unlocking more of his abilities and stats, I'm finding he is the most DPS-heavy of the three classes. You can't play all three classes the same, and I like that. But you do have to use different strategies, and with the rogue, for me, it's attack-and-flip-away, trap, bomb, turret. Also, keep in mind that your weapons, your swords, can get raised Attack and Stagger stats. I've been concentrating my weapons more towards Stagger since a few swipes to an enemy will put them in the Stunned state so you can finish them.

I hope this helped a little.

Happy gaming! :D

Nice, I'll practice with parry more. I made dodge my R-mouse, so it's easy in the nick of time, and don't often think to go for Q.

Oooh, I'll look into those. Thanks

Oooh, I should have that helm. I'll check. Honestly, this is my first DA game, and it's taken me a while to understand a lot of the stat info they put on gear. (I know, not something to be proud of.)
I haven't done too much with traps, so maybe that will help too.

Oh my goodness. I decided to try out Cordova's Toothpick with Bleeding Shard. I thought I'd for sure do way less damage because the blade is so weak (42 damage), but I just discovered the beauty that is stacking bleeds!
Turn on Crystallize, and I can get 4+ bleeds on those annoying shield guys. 😂

I don't know if it will stop the dodge dance of Champions, but it's pretty fun!

Bleeding out my enemies is the first time my rogue has felt kinda like a rogue in this game.

Yeah the game isn't hard on nightmare at all because you can just mash space bar whenever enemies get close. I mean it's better damage wise to parry and do damage but if you want you can just dodge constantly and win any fight, it just takes a long time.

It's fun and pretty cool, though a lot of bosses are immune to bleed (on nightmare at least).
