Rook's Personality
Unless I'm mistaken, it seems dialog choices the player makes don't have any effect on Rook's personality. I remember in DA2 the player could dictate Hawke's personality based on dialog choices. For example, choose mostly humorous dialog options and Hawke's conversations would be more witty, straightforward with more diplomatic choices, etc. This seems to be lacking in DA:V.

Rook doesn’t really have the same range as Hawke of the Inquisitor.
Typically you’re options with party members are:
Supportive
Silly, but sometimes supportive.
Stern, but often supportive.

When it’s not party members you get more range. With the party you’re a manager who’s trying to keep staff on.

It depends on the scene. In some cases, Rook has an effect, in others, there is no effect. Basically, the writers wanted to make sure the info stayed the same, regardless of what you chose. They just did a bad job at it, just reusing the lines, rather the recording different options for the choices.

"Walks into Demitris Crossing. Rook Grey Warden, there is blight inside. 2 sec later, companion shouts, there is blight! shocked face..."

Lady in distress - Please, I need help!
Hawke (humorous) - Don't worry ma'am, helping people and killing people is what we're best at.
LiD - I... I don't think any killing will be required...
Hawke (forceful) - Nonsense! Killing is always required!

God, DA2 really was something. They don't make'em like they used to : D

DA2 was rushed out the door, so its a "bad" product, if not for Hawke and Varric... Along with maybe the overall writing.

Yeh, many folks don't like it that much.
But between the (often) dark action comedy vibes, Force Mages and the lower stakes story, it really is my favorite entry. Can't help it : )

By todays standard, is not a bad game, but had it been given time to develop, rather then a year or so, who knows where it would have ended up.

That's true. DA2 was about role playing with the player free to develop Hawke's personality and scripted dialog via the dialog options.

Wich personality? I couldn't form my rook as i like to. I could not bond with my own character because of that. It felt strange from the beginning to the end. In other DA you have a little prelogue to form your character by yourself and the way you answer to npc's or companions. And they call it an rpg...the game has already choosen who my rook is. I saw my rook as someone that doesn't have balls for being realy sarcastic or rude and nothing more then a yes sayer.

Exactly! Why have different dialog options for essentially the same response in different tones if they have no affect on Rook's personality?

In all DA games you can form your own personality with the choices. That is in my eyes rpg t to start with, form your characters, give it an personality and rpg through the game and let it further grow. This could have bin a single protagonist without even have that speech wheel and following the story line. Well...it is that way with an facade of choices. It doesn't invite me for playing it again. At least for the moment, who knows what mods will come.

Yes, but in DA2, Hawke's scripted voice dialog could be different based on the dialog choices the player made (mostly humorous, diplomatic, aggressive, etc.) That's what made DA2 more dynamic than other DA titles.

I know, special when being funny/sarcastic like with Emric the templar. Or playing the harder version that you get extra option for solving things. In a hard way and an evil way. Even your companions banter formed around you what made it so great for re-playing that game. Still playing the old games because they have so much more depth in them, so much more nuances. But hey...DAV looks awsome and you can modelling your rook for images to share and it runs perfect so we are not allowed for complaining about what a good rpg makes an good rpg

Rook has a personality?

Where?

Where?

I looked and found nothing.

"Rook" is nothing more than a means to interact with the world and a game function to receive and deliver poorly written dialogue.
i just wanna know why rooks always smiling with his hands on his hips in every damn cutscene. even serious moments, my dude is smiling like an idiot doin the hero pose.

I really tried to give rook the personality i had in mind , but the game succesfully prevented this in giving me no appropriate dialog choices.
