A good comparison?
DAV is to Dragon Age as Chimera Squad is to Xcom

I'm enjoying it so far (early in). It's different. Adjacent to the source material, but DEFINITELY not part of the WHOLE...if that makes sense. LIke...a bemusing fanfic of the source material.
Anyhoo, yea. The interpretation (good or bad) of once grim dark visuals into cartoony candy crush facsimiles seems to mirror Chimera Squad rather well (Which I also enjoyed playing, for what its worth).
I prefer the original installments, but meh...I mean, I'm not "triggered" by this version of whatever story they're telling. If I look at it as a different license, it stands on its own so far.

Sacred 3 vs Sacred 2
Dungeon Siege 3 vs Dungeon Siege 2
Diablo 3 vs Diablo 2
Port Royal 3 vs Port Royal 2

Seems to happen pretty often.

oh yeah, Sacred 3 was the absolute worst. I'd almost forgotten that one

I put it this way:
It isn’t the dragon age game I wanted, but it is a good game in the Dragon Age setting.

I've a similar conclusion so far. Having about 60h in, distributed on 3 characters (=one for each class).

There is a lot of variety coming from the backgrounds (Mourne Watch is nicely done btw) and a lot of entertainment. If one isn't a die-hard cRPG fan - as this is an aRPG like e.g. Bound by Flame / Kingdom of Amalur (but a lot more polished and worked out).

In terms of the series it's bettern in some points then DA:I, but still my personal rating is:

Da:O > Da:I > Da:V. Da:"2" I'd rather it doesn't exist.

Indeed. I too hope someday they get back to the more serious theme Da:O had. The whole world was much more authentic and could've been presented so much better with todays technical possibilities. But DA:"2" unfortunately introduced this "Yolo - dual wielding dagger rubber ball hopping around the battlefield" theme.

I'm finding that a lot of the criticisms (which were concerns of my own) just...aren't cropping up so far in my gameplay. The story decisions actually seem to have a pretty in-depth alteration affect on the setting/npcs/mechanics/companions/dialog and story so far. Like, spoiler free, an entire city had its map changed physically, mechanically, AND visually; with NPCs changing their placements, demeanors, and atmosphere. Like, pretty extensively.
I'm just shy of 20hrs in so far and yea...I dunno, seems like the critiques were just...wrong mostly.
Like, I've had a companion already LEAVE the party because of a story choice. I was told that was just IMPOSSIBLE.
I'm sure they come back, but yea...they are officially missing from my party right now. So, I mean, that's just straight up a lie about the whole "You can't lose party members" thing

A lot of the complaints were just people parroting what they heard from others without actually playing it or knowing for sure. People are quick to make have strong feelings on things they hear without taking a moment to think if they actually know or care.

I actually think of Veilguard to be most closely reminiscent of BioWare's often overlooked title Jade Empire. How am I the only person to think this?

Probably because everyone overlooked Jade Empire…

Which reminds me, I should actually play Jade Empire. I tried on a friend’s Xbox back when you could barely hold an Xbox controller.

I'm still not sure who tf thought Chimera Squad was a good idea.

Kinda like DATV, I really hope theres art/concepts released similar to Bioshock Infinite showing their original ideas and what we got.

Something tells me this had potential to make a lot more people happy before it got redone however how many times.

Dungeon Siege 3 is the best comparison I think.

Nah, I don't think Jade Empire's a good comparison because, in the context of this discussion, it's games that are "franchise-adjacent" (I like that term), and JE wasn't like anything bioware had done before (or after). The graphics looked to me like it bore a resemblance to NWN but that's about it.

I can relate to this sentiment.

I'd go with:

Ultima IV vs UU
BG2 to BG:Dark Alliance

They share a lot, but they're fundamentally different than their predecessors.

i still struggle to see how the game looks like candy crush.
I think its the over use of bright colors, the flashing/shimmering/glowing/bursting light effects for every collectible etc
