Taash is an insult to the trans community
The entire character is built like "Teenage Angst" The whole "I do what I want mom you cant tell me what to do" Its portraying Trans people as self entitled pricks. Theres even some irony in the game that Taash gets mad that you misgender/mislabel them but then Taash turns around and does the same to Emmrich calling him a death mage/corpse guy even when asking Taash to stop. They could have wrote a really good character where they just happen to be Trans and would gain more respect but instead they wrote the worst character of the game and will only further tarnish how people perceive these issues. Devs are definitely trolling and dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about your issues.

Imagine being a trans or non-binary, and this is your in-game representative, the most annoying childish character in the game.

If I'm one of those people, I'd like to have a badass character that never talked about gender or identity, and just focus on killing enemies and acting like a grown adult.

Imagine self-inserting yourself into a game and then beeing easily the most hated character in it ^^

The writing of the entire game sucks, not just the Taash character. You can open a complete playthrough on Youtube, literally play a random part of the game, and chances you'll feel even more embarrased by the dialog than you did the last time.

As someone who feels as Taash does, many of their words resonated with me. Their talk with Neve in the beginning ("no one likes being a woman" and "It feels right. Why does it feel right?") hit me especially hard, I've had those thoughts exactly.
Their journey is messy and awkward, as it often is for queer people.

While I do not deny that, having interviewed and talked to many in a fairly anti-LGBT country (unironically, our president is gay, but he's not too open about it) and supporting their activities, I have to ask.

Why exactly do you think IRL issues need to be mirrored in a entertainment medium for a select minority? The statistics imply that all this achieves (proper term?) is promote toxicity towards the LGBT community by putting it in bad light, hurt sales - ensuring we'll probably never see another DA game - and adding nothing to the narrative as a whole?

I am being genuinely curious. The negatives of forced inclusivity clearly hurt everyone involved.
I think the writers should be free to explore whatever themes and topics they feel like exploring. Modern issues have always been mirrored in media, just usually with more metaphor. I understand and appreciate the writers going a more direct route in this instance.
I disagree that it adds nothing to the narrative. I think Taash's story is interesting, and relatable to people who don't get to see themselves in media often. It might also help people understand it better, if they're open to it. It also paves the way for more representation of its kind in the future, as was the case before for gay representation.
If Bioware wanted to have a trans character, why not use Krem. Krem was fun and likeable, and acted like a professional mercenary.

LOL I would not play this game, if it we're free to play.

If Bioware truly wanted to advance the "cause", the trans character would've been carefully written into becoming the best of the cast. Dorian was a bit like that, he was sarcastic, but at times charismatic. That this time they didn't do that, suggests that they no longer care about pushing a great game forwards, and thought that brand recognition was the only thing that would made this a hit.

Bioware might be "woke", but more important than that, it has gotten lazy. To be fair, though, I find some of the other characters to be even worse.

Taash basically blamed and shamed my transgendered Rook for dressing like a woman. Taash is an awful and immature individual, who abused my Rook and Emmrich - and got away with it.

I concur so much that I might pull up a barve for all players who had to endure it.
While Taash is my least favorite character, I'm just gonna throw this out there anyway:
The reason they're written like an angsty teenager is because they are.

They’re an angsty teen. Trans teens are as angsty as cis teens. I kinda figure if they annoy me by acting like a kid that’s the point. They’re a hotheaded kid who doesn’t know where they want to be in the world. In a way the writering of Taash reminds me of Allister’s writing in DAO. He’s a listless person who’s just gone where he’s told his whole life and when given the chance to do something about it he gets snarky instead.
