Can you die in this game ?
Serious question :

I've watched streamers played in underdog difficulty (the second hardest one in this game) and they never died.

When he (the streamer) jump in the void, your character just respawn on the ledge like Lakitu from Mario Kart brough him back.

And during combat, he's been at 0 health multiple time, and every time I swear I could see him take another hit or two, getting little staggered or knockedback, but then just ask a healing from a companion or drink a potion like nothing. Some boss attacks can get like 25% of their health per shot, he gets hit 4 times, gets to empty health bar and get other hits like nothing. Just a shaky red screen like this is Call of Duty or something.

Is there any challenge in higher difficulties ?

Also, never saw the allies take any damage or aggro anything either, so they look useless until you ask them for an ability.

There is no fall damage, but there is a limit as to how far the game will allow you to fall, which is odd.

You can only die in combat, AFAIK.

No, you are permanently invincible, even on the hardest difficulties. /s

Did you die during combat ? And if so, which difficulties ? Of all the people I've watched played this game on twitch/Ytube, nobody ever died and had to reload. And some of them looked like not that good at action combat games honestly.

I am still playing on normal for my first playthrough, but yes I die in combat. Death comes a bit after that red screen you were talking about, but there is a pretty big window to heal yourself before that happens.

There is an custom difficulty option that gives you a toggle to not die, maybe they had that enabled.

I’ve died a few times on normal mode, but those were very specific situations. The monsters are leveled to your character’s level, so even the tough ones, like dragons, can be beaten with patience and time. However, it’s possible to run out of healing potions, have your skills on cooldown, or end up surrounded by too many monsters at once, and that’s when you die.

OP description sounds like a difficulty setting thing if there's that much health of a boss vanishing. If you play on Nightmare then you'll regularly run into stuff well over your level if you're doing side content. Different companions offer different heals and there's different items which improve heal pots and so on. There's even revives to get an incombat resurrect every so often. It is easy enough to power fantasy so you'd never die on lower difficulties where the damage isn't as severe for missing a dodge or block. You just don't get the joy of turning up to a dragon fight with nothing but a cheeky grin and a 10++ level deficit.

Iirc on story mode you can disable death entirely. As for other scenarios, there's no fall damage but you get reset to closeby ledge. There is also extremely lenient system in place to give you "death's door" chance, no matter how much damage you take in one hit, you'll always end up on 1% hp after any kind of hit so you still have a chance to recover if you don't take another hit. I tested this by fighting a level 32 boss at level 18 and failing phase transition mechanic because I didn't have enough dps, got hit for several thousands of damage, which was about 3x-5x the amount of my max HP and still lived with 1% of hp left.

Thanks, I suppose that is what I saw on by the streamers, they were always at 1% no matter what, so they go in, get rampaged, ask Rejuv skill from Harding, starts healing in a continous matter and keep getting hit back to 1% because of this "death door" effect you describe; making them virtually invincible as long as Rejuv skill was ticking

There is no fall damage, and you can jump down places and just land where in DAI you would have taken health damage. This is a good thing as it's easy to fall off stuff and I for one wouldn't want to be forced to backtrack, or restart an annoying fight b/c of that, However, you can easily die in combat. There is a setting that makes you immortal, but it's on on easy afaik. Anyone who earns their money streaming should be good enough at games not to die all the time though.

You can die, but like all DA games before it (except for DA2, for some reason) Veilguard is actually a pretty easy game, even on the hardest difficulty, once you figure out how to play it.

eather that or they play on story mode instead of the one they claims. story mode has the option to not die as standard

it's acting a bit like the shield gate in Mass Effect - nothing can straight up one shot you and you a have a generous window to recover, I think, before killing blows get registered.

I died once to what I'd call an electro-ogre as that thing was vastly above my level and had high-frequency tick damage.

I die on the regular, but I'm a CRPG player with the reflexes of a forklift and this game was not made for me. I'm playing it anyways and I enjoy getting hyper murdered in colorful explosions and by body horror creatures as I suck at it.

* Falling into a pit or off the screen results in a respawn from right before you fell off without penalty.

Pretty much but you can still die on story, there's a specific toggle for it.
