I Finally Agree About Taash.
My last post got deleted for spam, so I'll do my best to express my opinion again, but shorter and without spoilers.

I am not almost fifty hours into the game and I've seen a lot more of Taash's story. I agree.

While Taash has grown on me and I still love this game overall, I have to agree that her backstory was a bit much. While I don't mind since I'm a member of the LGBTQ+, I do think that a video game was an odd place to discuss these topics. Especially since the rest of the game and companions fit into the world more, they're all about magic, darkspawn, etc. Then Taash is....Taash. It just feels out of place in this world.

I still like the game though and I like Taash, but I can understand why some people might not feel comfortable with this game. HOWEVER, all of those parts are completely avoidable. So you can still enjoy the game and just not focus on her storyline. Anywho, that's all.

I don't have a problem with it generally but it is hard to make something like this in a video game without feeling very artificial and overbearing and forced, to the point I would say kill all romances in games period.

I've since changed my opinion on Taash. I still wish they hadn't used modern language, but I think the Taash stuff was done well.
She is my favs companion and I think she fits in the game perfectly, she is a Qunari who denounces the Qun, so like her not fitting in totally fits in, I dont know what are all y all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about.

sigh...people forgetting, or doesn't even know because they prefer yelling about things that was always there like Dorian & his personal quest was all about acceptance and how he likes the company of men and that his father tryed to change him with blood magic. That was not just a small hidden piece but part of his personal quest. This isn't any difference.

And it was TERRIBLE. I mean Dorian was a decent character, but they had to ruin his personal story by making it about fatherly acceptance of his sexuality. They could make something cool about corrupt Tevinter mages instead, I mean the possibilities are endless, but they went with THAT, and it SUCKED.

Well, you could decide NOT to do Dory's personal quest and it made absolutely no difference. If you ignore the personal quests in DAV it has consequences, just like in ME2, on which the paradigm is modeled.

But to focus on Dory for a moment, what I found annoying about his personal quest was not that he was gay or even that it was about his daddy issues. It was that your choices as the Inquisitor were (A) support Dory and tell him to walk away, or (B) support Dory and tell him to hang in.

What's missing? An option--which I would have chosen--to tell him to man up and accede to his father's dynastic wishes while keeping his boyfriend on the side.

The lore makes it perfectly clear that (1) homosexuality in Thedas is tolerated as long as you keep it behind closed doors and don't frighten the horses, and (2) pretty much anyone in a position like Dorian gets to have something on the side.

I would even be OK with that option carrying the risk--even the certainty--that Dory would flounce out never to be seen again (like Sera does if you don't coddle HER).

But, nope--even then the agenda was in play. Sadly.

It still feels, to me, like something that was added after the fact. It seems pretty obvious to me that the main story line of her companion quest was about whether Taash should pursue Rivaini Culture or embrace the Qunari heritage.

Even the final battle of her Companion arc was all about that. The non-binary stuff felt like it was all tacked on later.
Spoilers.

I think that the "non-binary" reveal caused people to miss what was supposed to be the main story for Taash and her mother.

Taash has the fire breathing ability which meant that the Qun would expect her to become a berserker who would be a front line fighter. Taash's mother didn't want the Qun to make this decision for Taash and this is the reason that she took her and fled to Rivain.

However, the Qun is still important to Taash's mother and she tries to convince Taash that she should embrace that culture. This is why I think that the poster who I am quoting is correct that the main point is supposed to be whether Taash will embrace the Qun or continue in the Rivaini culture that she grew up in.

The "Dragon King" is also pursuing Taash to make use of this ability. The "non-binary" reveal is just part of her companion story line, and doesn't occupy that much time. It is important, however, because these story line's can impact the character's fate at the end of the game.

I doubt that the developers foresaw that Taash's identity issues would cause such an uproar.
I think her sexuality is a separate thing from the whole Qun/Riviani thing.
I dont know whats the problem with adding an option to have a trans/non binary character.
Or having a sexually colourful companion to match that character.
People are just stupid as always xD

Avoidable?
How do you get the best endings if you don't complete all companions story quests.

I haven't had anyone actually confirm if you get a bad ending if you don't complete her missions. So I don't know. I think it's assumed, but not sure if it's true.
Apparently addressing this question violates the community standards on spoilers.
I actually liked the last quest for Taash, but the character is still needlessly annoying for most of the journey there.

It's especially irritating when Taash spends most of the game shouting "you don't get to decide who I am" before belittling Emmrich for his occupation and not backing down. My boy didn't deserve that disrespect.

What do you like about tassh exactly?

I like that she grows as a person, she's funny, and she's blunt. They make her really unlikable as a person, but she ended up growing on me. She has so much funny party banter and and she learns to be a better person.
Stop misgendering them!

Basically she is 20 most people complaining are 99 and forgot how it was when they were 20 so they moan, thinking they are better or something, regular stuff.

To anyone who thinks Taash's struggle with being nonbinary and having to figure out who she is doesn't belong in the game or isn't needed...you're all wrong. Could the writing be better, yes (and always in any game).

"I doubt that the developers foresaw that Taash's identity issues would cause such an uproar."

They absolutely did, and didn't give one iota, because that's who Bioware is. This is Bioware being true to themselves, the way they should be. Just like Taash needs to be, her character and story line are perfect for it. All of this follows in the trend of not just Bioware games and the Bioware crew, but especially Dragon Age itself. I can't be the only one who's read about the creators of the series and why LGBTQ issues are important to them, since many were themselves LGBTQ. They have continually strived to be more and more inclusive.

To anyone it bothers: 1, I'm glad it does and 2, if you don't like it, go play something else. Bioware will have plenty of sales without you, more than it they had not included it.

I guess the gender convo with mum went about as well as depicted in the game?

What delusional world are you in? EA announced the game flopped. They empirically are not getting plenty of sales. Game went on 40% off a few days after EA admitted it isn't selling.

Agreed. There are many problems with Veilguard. The characters not all being straight white men or "sexy" straight white women and not letting you tell the LGBT to go to hell aren't any of those problems.
