I Finally Agree About Taash.
My last post got deleted for spam, so I'll do my best to express my opinion again, but shorter and without spoilers.

I am not almost fifty hours into the game and I've seen a lot more of Taash's story. I agree.

While Taash has grown on me and I still love this game overall, I have to agree that her backstory was a bit much. While I don't mind since I'm a member of the LGBTQ+, I do think that a video game was an odd place to discuss these topics. Especially since the rest of the game and companions fit into the world more, they're all about magic, darkspawn, etc. Then Taash is....Taash. It just feels out of place in this world.

I still like the game though and I like Taash, but I can understand why some people might not feel comfortable with this game. HOWEVER, all of those parts are completely avoidable. So you can still enjoy the game and just not focus on her storyline. Anywho, that's all.

I think what grinds most people is the fact that writers nowadays treat their audiences like little kids. Introducing "current events" of their respective time into stories is nothing new, it has been done for centuries, but the reason it works in beloved franchises like the X-Men of old is because writers didn't smack you in the face with the message they intended to deliver, but rather showed situations that paralleled what they wanted to tell in open ways, that could be interpreted and applied to many different groups and situations. Take the messages that early the X-Men comics used to tell in their golden days, and they can be applied to any day and age, It allowed the audience to reach their own conclusions on the subject rather than outright telling you THIS BEHAVIOR BAD! YOU BAD PERSON IF YOU DO THIS!

The X-men in their time had clear parallels to Martin Luther King and Malcom X in the characters of Charles Xavier and Magneto. The X-Men themselves being a parallel for the struggles of the African American community of their time. By making them something new, and different and not being completely upfront however, any group facing similar struggles could find something to identify within them, black people, gay people, even nerds! The message became universal and it drew people to them.

Modern day writing often struggles with achieving this. The message being sent is often direct, and to the point. It becomes too specific to the point it often insults the intelligence of the consumer. And that is the reason I believe it does not resonate in the way that the writers and supporters wish that it did with as many people as they wish.

Yes! This exactly. Well said.

I think there’s the frame of a good story around Taash, but the companion work really feels like it took a backseat in just getting a game out. As the character who was gonna catch the most flak b/c they’re nonbinary, it stands out the most. Not that their story is the worst DA companion story, I’d say some of the DAII companions share a lack of nuance (Anders and Merrill being the worst offenders imo).

I also think that everyone being playersexual in both II and DAV detracts from the companions.

I always forget Merril exists until someone mentions her, so yeah. Cause like... what the heck...her story. I think I just block it out on purpose.,

Her character is forced, it's just a political ploy to spread an agenda and change the way people behave, that is why it feels out of place.

If I wanted to force people to believe my ideology I would force it into their every day life and spread the message to the young who are impressionable.

Same reason they teach you religion at school.

And it is working, rather than discussing that there are only 2 genders, the goal post has moved to why the story feels 'out of place'

The goal is to spread the message until it's normalised and they are using video games as a form of media to do so because they know kids will have access.

As we have said before, they are activists not developers, sending a message is more important to them than making a good game.

I don't think most people are bothered by the message, but more of how it was delivered.

When we like something, we tend to block out the parts we don’t like.

Varric and Aveline are not romanceable at all. Sebastian is straight.

Unfortunately for someone who likes to see all the endings this isn't true, I got the worst ending on my first playthrough since I didn't do any companion quests in which case it is avoidable, though you still hear they/them nonsense.

Overall I enjoyed the game, it's not 10/10 of game at all and is very baffling that score was given to it but it's a 6-7 for me, if Taash is removed with a mod or something in the future then it'll be a score or two higher.

It's funny that the same company that wrote Dorian and Krem created this abomination but whatever, we're past that point already and the damage is done.

That is true. And for me Varric and Aveline are my favorite companions in the game.

Meanwhile, I forget about Sebastian b/c I was not buying DAII DLC. No thank you.

I liked these two the most as well. It felt they had the most developed personality. And I just enjoyed the conversations with them more than with the others. It has been many years since the last time I played DA2, but I can still remember conversations with these two.
I remember Anders well too, but it's more because of that insane turn of events.

Taash got more annoying the more I was around them. Their entire personality is based around gender politics and mommy issues. Taash is rude af and you can't say ♥♥♥♥ to her. They didn't even give her any sort of accent, it's literally like talking to a girl on a college campus with the half shaved head. I wanted to like the game, but now I am just skipping most of the dialogue and trying to finish it so I can uninstall. I can't support bioware while the writer and director work there. The writer is re-tweeting posts about white supremacy on X, talking about men being a problem apparently. They clearly cannot do the series justice, and with the company letting long time bioware employees go it just shows they won't ever measure up to the old days. After learning all this I feel like a jack ass for trying to stick it out for this game, I should've returned it.

Icky, I didn't know that. I never really look at what they post on social media unless I see it on JackDaw's channel or if it's N7 day. It's a shame and super gross if that's true. I can't support people who are racist or just full on man haters. It's one of my biggest annoyances with books and media. I hate how things that are supposed to be pro women, are basically just a way to shove the "men bad, women good" at us. And I say this as a woman who primarily dates other women lol.

That's not at all how Taash is actually presented.

I was talking about the writers and developers, not the game or Taash. In that specific reply I mean.

Though they weren't wrong that Taash can be a lille bull headed, but she has grown on me. She's a little like Sera, but less free and goofy.

I also don't like the fact we can't call her BS. We can't revoke Taash from the team.
1) She explicitly apologizes when you get involved in that situation and getting involved is the only way you know she called him a skull-liker.

2) Yeah, revoking the dragon slayer from the team in the dragon age game where you need to kill dragons is very smart. Do it.

Actually, I'll help you: It's the game-over screen. Good job. You win!

You should be pulling a Bharv. And please don't make it ALL ABOUT YOURSELF.
You just misgendered them. The irony is strong.

Asking to be called they/them but not calling people as they wish is facepalming-level on the Massivecunter scale.
The skull-liker scene comes before Taash' scene about their pronouns.

You misgendered Taash first. I'm tired, what's your bigoted excuse, when you're clearly aware?

I don't make excuses, I stand corrected, get better, and move on. And I'm neither bigoted nor aware, but thanks for that.

This depiction of Taash is a terrible caricature, it's still my opinion.
It does. I'm intellectually tired from dealing with antiwoke dishonest liars.

You, uhh.. You didn't "get better". You talked about Taash being nonbinary, while misgendering them. I'm tired as ♥♥♥♥, physically, and intellectually as well thanks to folks like you. But you explicitly knew and were aware, and made an active choice to misgender them.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. You made an intentional choice, then spewed out one of those weird right-wing antiwoke "do a barv" memes, whatever the hell that means.
