Necromancy in Veilguard
I am looking forward to playing a mage necromancer. Veilguard will have a faction called the Mourn Watch that is tied to necromancy and the mage companion Emmrich Volkarin is a necromancer. Emmrich has a skeleton assistant named Manfred.

If anyone else has plans on dabbling with necromancy or just like talking about the lore then it would be fun to talk about it here.

I'm excited to see how Solas will react to harbouring a Mortalitasi in the lighthouse, since he doesn't seem to like them very much.
I'm also wondering if we'll get to hear Manfred talk - as in, use actual words. He didn't in Tevinter Nights iirc.

Hmm.... according to what I have read on the BSN it seems like he would use gestures and perhaps moans as communication. I can see Manfred becoming a fun addition to the crew.

I had completely missed that Solas has an aversion to necromancy, or I have simply forgotten it since it has been such a long time since the last PT. Think I will swing by Solas today in Haven.

Ha ha, I guess I just have to read Tevinter Nights some time soon because it feels like talking about a project in school and everyone else has read the entire requried reading list and I haven't.

Yeah someone who already got to play mentioned that they haven't heard him talk yet. But maybe he will later! I love it when Mercer gets to voice freaky lil guys so I'd be all for it.
Solas will talk about necromancy a bit if you get that specilization. You'll see more of Solas' aversion towards the Mortalitasi in TN, in the last short story. You should definetly read it before Veilguard comes out, it is so so good. Also yes I bring it up a lot lol a lot of it is very relevant to speculations for Veilguard. Also, Dorian shows up in one of the stories :)
If you're looking for an alternative to reading it yourself, Ghil Dirthalen has made a video series on it. It's rather long but perfect for listening to while doing chores or work.
Here is the first 3 chapters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz8a1St_5Jk&ab_channel=GhilDirthalen
Some of the side characters, like Strife and Antoine, are said to make a return in the game as well.

Thank you so much for posting this, it will be perfect to have in the background.

There is still so much that we do not know about how the factions will work and how necromancy will work in the game. Part of my recent interest in necromancy comes from rereading Sabriel by Garth Nix, a really good that I recommend if someone is looking for a nice fantasybook. The teenage girl that the book follows is a necromancer, she has learned the arts from her father and their greatest mission is to put the dead to rest in a world that suffers from whole lot of necromancers who keep dragging people and monsters back into the living world.

So, I don't know if it will be possble to be the kind of "nice" necromancer who has learned the ways of necromancy in order to keep the dead dead and perhaps a few living ones that really should be dead as well. If that is possible I am very interested. I will most likely get around to playing the necromancy faction but I just have to see a little bit of how it works in the game so that I can make the right kind of character for it. It will be fun when people start telling others on the forum about story and lore in the different factions.

Do you know if you’ll actually be able to play as skellington necromancer?

Hmm... skellington necromancer.

I am not really certain what you mean but I am pretty sure that your character will have to be a human, elvhen, qunari or dwarf.

One of the companions has a skelleton assisstant Manfred but I don't think that there will be more skeletons than that.

Haven't thought about it earlier but I wonder how necromancy will work for dwarwes, they have no magical abilites and they cannot enter the fade as far as I know. Wonder how that will work out.

There will be a necromancy-oriented specilization for mages. I'm guessing you can still serve the Mourn Watch without magical abilities, but you wouldn't be a necromancer.

Lich is the word I was looking for. Because when I saw necromancy I assumed it was related to that. Many necromancers are also liches.

Ha ha, good thing that criffyzou could come with some lore-help because I had no idea at all. Had to google what a lich is. Guess I should really play that faction once just for educational purposes.

Not in the Dragon Age universe. Nevarran necromancers have a unique and codified relationship to death, reminiscent of Ancient Egyptians.

The closest to a lich would be the Revenants we can fight, but even that is not 1 to 1.

Dragon Age is its own universe with its own rules and sometimes things that have the same name as generic fantasy concepts are something else entirely.

Ah I see. So just playable fleshy species that have learned necromancy basically? Dwarf necromancy sounds cool
They showed pictures of a Necropolis and it looks so cool.

Very intrigued to see how they're gonna handle the topic.
Oh, also, it seems like there's a Necromancy based Warrior specialization-could that be a newer take on Spirit Warrior, I wonder?

Yeah, copying Tomb Kings from Warhammer: Fantasy Battles is very unique.
So taking inspiration by Egyptian history is unique for one, but not the other?

Woah, just like some tomb kings ruling over living humans.
You think the Necropolis is the governing body of Nevarra?

Alright, so its Fantasy General 2 empire then with transmuters supporting legionaires with magic, legions of undead and constructs.
I don't know of any codex entries describing the Nevarrans using the undead in the army. I imagine the living relatives would be quite offended. Unless you have something that indicates otherwise?
