No white companions?
It's very strange to me, that we only have one white human companion and he's an old guy. We got a dwarf, a black elf, a qunari woman, an arab man, an asian elf, a black woman and the old white man. I get diversity is the new thing in the Western world but where's the diversity if there are no white companions? (Apart from the old guy, I suppose.)

Care to elaborate on that.
Which part?

Gaider has apparently admitted to being inspired by A Song of Ice and Fire for Origins at least.

The human noble origin and Loghain's betrayal are right out of those books. The Grey Wardens share a lot in common with the Night's Watch.

It's not the only inspiration, stuff like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Wheel of Time are also often cited examples.

If you mean A Song of Ice and Fire and climate change, the white walkers are sort of a walking undead metaphor for climate change.
And that's good enough for me. I hate it when people assume inspirations for fantasy settings. It's a massive pet peeve for me

Oh i would never say something like that without examples to back it up normally, but i was sort of making an off hand joke.

Kinda interesting how the definition of race in fantasy has drastically changed over the decades.

Race in the 90s & 00s fantasy has always meant different species, i.e. humans, orientals, dwarf, elves, orcs, dark elves, dark dwarfs, draconic, goblins. Elves being depicted as white and dark elves as ashen black and so on & forth.
The world views have drastically changed too since systems like D&D have been developed.

The original D&D edition from 1974 had 4 playable races, while the latest 5e edition has 9 races to choose from. If you take all sublemental races into account, you end up with 39 playable races.

I personally find that many races to be too much, but it's not for me to decide wether that evolution is a good, or a bad thing. Nobody forces me to consume any type of media I'm not fine with.

Nowadays you got asian elf, black elf. Is a black elf considered a dark elf? If not, what would a black dark elf look like? How about a hispanic oriental human? or a white dark elf, will they have black & white strips like a zebra? How about a malay dark dwarf or chinese dark dwarf? Or maybe a vietnamese goblin? or an arabic orc, hmm, brown orcs wearing hijabs and turbans?
You seem to be showing a lot of imagination, but for all the wrong reasons, sadly. Why not just accept that the races in Dragon Age are multi-colored and be fine with it? They always have been, and you're just distracting yourself from the more important question. How do we stop the world from ending?!

In all honesty, its getting ridiculous and obnoxious. And this coming from a non-white person. Fantasy should have kept real life politics out of it.
Skin colors aren't real life politics!

It's funny that people that regurgitate the MESSAGE all the time, especially in this thread, ended up getting banned same way as I have. Who'd have that thunk that advocating for someone to have power over a fellow man, and be able to censure and oppress said fellow man will find it blowing it in their faces...

You look kind of desperate for attention when you resuscitate your own five-day-old thread.

"diversity" only happens in the western world. Fixed it for you.

Oh good, you're back too. Well, the two of you should have plenty to talk about.

I'm Italian, nobody in Italy has that complexion. Spanish Arabs maybe.

This Sicilian gentleman begs to differ.

Also, can we take a minute to appreciate how gross this post is? I’m not sure what’s worse, the demand for more white people, the requirement that the white people be humans, or the lumping together of anyone slightly darker as “black.”

I need a shower.

The only disgusting thing here is you who live getting angry, fighting and seeking to have people canceled for giving their opinion.

Make that the three of you. :)

so should elfs only look like white Caucasian and dwarfs should only look like also white Caucasians the thing is its more likely they added a more diverse looking set of those races for two reasons one a bigger pool of possible looks and as a way for players to make a character (if they desire too) look more like them but at the same time not stick out as like the only black elf among elfs also there are no dark elfs in DA so your point there.
as for the HIjab thing thats not a race thing its fashion / religious thing aswell as if im not mistaken it has practical reasons as well for those living in the climate its most frequently worn in. as for the orc thing the WOW orcs Originally, all orcs were either brown-skinned, ranging from a bark-like brown to reddish-brown; or grey-skinned, ranging from a light grey to a dark, sooty black. the green skin there more often are now is because of bodies reacted to their exposure to warlock magic once it was introduced by Gul'dan.
also in general orcs have varied in colour till the popularisation of green orcs same for goblins
you guys all must have bumped your heads into each other's heads

All they know how to do is play the race card. They have been taught this by their leftist handlers.

Look who's back from time out. Did we learn anything? Methinks not.

Kind of how they claim we are the ones imposing a quota, while demanding a fourth or fifth white companion. :D
Hey OP.... don't let the DEI trolls get to you. DA:Veilguard is a game made for the DEI bandwagon... just vote with your wallet, like i will do if you're not interested in it, that's the only argument that DEI corporations understand.... I think Sony just understands it better than anyone else at the moment. More will come in the future.
