Hawke and the Warden, the characters you mentioned are player characters and dragon age games have always allowed player characters to experience both gay and straight relationships.

Hawke and the Warden are already gay or bi - for a lot of people in their playthrough.

Have you played single dragon age game? The games have always been extremely queer, its what a lot of people love about them.
