Personally I would say that the Mass Effect trilogy is a lot more connected than the Dragon Age games. Because it's a numbered trilogy with one long continuous story. Whereas, besides Dragon Age 2, every game has a different name. And also generally has a less connected story.

That is true. Mass Effect is more about together. Especially since you play Shepard in every single game. We will see what happens. Hope that they won't make us wait too long.

Well, I don't think there's a specific date yet but at the very least they've said it will come out this fall. So unless there's a delay it won't be super long.

From what the Devo has said. You do not need to revisit the previous games (it's been a decade) to play Veilgaurd. It stands alone.

No, and thank your lucky stars for that bc origins has NOT aged well lol.

The graphics felt not very good even when it came out.

But personally I feel like the rest is still fine.

it's not just the graphics for me, the combat.. if you're playing a mage, GFL. most people don't use combat tactics, so they'd have to deal with friendly fire, unless you play on easy. which is honestly the best way to play it imo. it's not that it looks bad it's that there are a bunch of areas that i'm 99% sure have not been playtested on higher difficulties.

That's fair. Origins was an incredibly difficult game in some areas lol.

I never really bothered much with mage honestly. Mostly stuck to rogue, tried warrior once.

Genuine answer here: no. While it will give a lot of context, the game will likely provide you with some surface-level context in any case and you can always look up what you want more context on via the internet. However, there are 3 choices you need to decide that's based on the previous game's decisions, which are who the inquisitor(previous game's protagonist) was and who did they romance, was the inquisition disbanded or handed over to Chantry control, and did the inquisitor say they would stop Solas or save him? (I spoilered the last two in case you didn't already know about those decisions in DA: Inquisition and do decide to play that game.)

While I would recommend playing some of the previous games just because they do hold up fairly well even today, and Inquisition in particular directly ties into this game, I wouldn't call it a requirement as long as you get a general understanding of what happened at the end of Inquisition and who Solas is.

You don't need to know even about the 3 choices. There is a default state in the character creator and you only optionally edit it.

Anyways, the game should be new player friendly in general.

No need to play the previous games as there is a recap when you start the game.
You can also find many youtube clips that will give you a very short version of the lore and story of the Dragon Age world.

Just play Origins if you like a real RPG and ignore everything else that came after that!

ignore this dude, he wants you to blindly follow an aged game and not have fun with anything else.

Ignore this troll that gets banned like every couple of days!
Like I said, if he wants a "real RPG" Origins is the only choice. And that is the truth. If he enjoys games like Guardians of the Galaxy, he can play the other ones too.

and every reason is as dumb as the last. :p

not sure how DAII is like GoTG, further, not sure why everyone is suddenly bringing up GoTg.

Have you watched videos about Veilguard? You didn't notice how combat is very similar to other games?
I actually recently tried to give Inquisition another chance. But I just couldn't play it. For a RPG veteran the combat is just not tolerable. I want to be tactically challenged, not mash buttons like a monkey.
That's why I say. If I want to button mash I can play God of War or GoTG and have more fun.

Because people were comparing the initial awful reveal trailer to Disney's Marvel movies (which I understood to be honest). There was even a guy who got hands on, and in his early impressions video, literally compared the "found family vibes" in Veilguard to Guardians of the Galaxy. And to him that comparison was a positive, but for a lot of people it isn't.

Now I guess they've taken that idea and run with it though, slapping it on everything.

'Kay, so, few points; I noticed how the combat is similar to Inquistion. I still have no idea what GOTG has to do with it, or GoW, as if they created that specific type of combat.

Veilguard has like a rage meter, with special attack when full. Just like GoW. Apart that combat just looks like a full on action rpg.
Veilguard also almost has the same companion order menu like GoTG.
That is where the comparison comes from.
And is Veilguard closer to those? Or to Origins (or any real rpg for that matter)?

Okay but you also realize a game can be an RPG AND have action-like combat, right? look at mass effect.

And no i honestly don't see the similarities. Maybe bc i don't like comparing two different games with two different designs in mind, idk.

It is true that the term rpg nowadays is like as wide as the grand canyon.
Mass Effect is a game I tried to like too, but just couldn't really. It is neither a full blown rpg, nor a full blown shooter. I tries both, but neither one is good imo.

Edit: You still don't, but it's nice to have context from inquistion.
What? I just played it recently and it was a blast, what are you talking about?
