No, the "Veilguard" definitely do not have the same vibes. The writers and playtesters have been saying that the story and tone will be very similar to DAO and Tevinter Nights but that remains to be seen. The trailer and gameplay showcase don't really give off that vibe, but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.
The graphics looked bad in the trailer, but what I saw in the gameplay looked quite good actually- it's the gameplay itself I did not like.
Riiiiiiiight. Super.
Dude, you gave BG3 a negative review. How on earth could I take you serious? lol
But I get it. You like the fluffy Disney style. Neon lights and stuff. Allright, no problem. I think purple is an awesome colour too, but not for this game. Not for me.
So many people are extremely disappointed by what they see. They have the right to vent. You don't have to read it though. Right? I hoped for more rpg elements. Less action/adventure.
Back to BG3. Sorry. How? What? Huh?
"The most impressive looking sex simulator on Steam."
It has romance options. Options. Just like Divinity 2 had. Just ignore them all and it goes away pretty fast. Woudlnt want you to miss out on the best rpg made last couple of years.
A REAL rpg.
Oh man I did not know that. Same I enjoyed playing as male Hawke (I think it was mostly cause of his voice). Cool that he is returning to voice Rook.
I hope for your own sake this is sarcasm.
I like how it looks, I like the characters and the universe, and I like the story of the last games. I don't care thaaaaat much about the fighting system, I even like it thats it's a bit more action based, but I still hope it gets a little harder than hack 'n slash because it looked veeeeery easy in the trailer. also I hope there will be more dialogue options and cosequences, and that the choices really have an impact on the story. I'm a little concerned about that..
The other thing I am concerned about is Solas voice actor (well, the voice actors in general), because i absolutely HATE when voice actors get changed, aaand I'm not quite sure if it's the same as in Inquisition.
What did you know, why did you say that? .__.
There is hate definitely. It comes from all the peoples who advertised BG3 so much as a perfect game, making a majority of players purchase a game they actually disliked.
And when such players tried to say their opinions on their first run, they got shut down in forces by Larian fans as well.
I speak about all those D&D aficionados (which made Larian's luck), religious fanatics, most of them know nothing about videogames and are pretty much "one-trick ponies" that pretend to be expert in videogaming cause they got a D&D badge.
Yes D&D, that rules-pack that badly translate to video-games and that cannot distinguish between evasion and armor (when in videogames, cause D&D players make up for it when playing for real, but videogame developers don't understand that), that says it all already.
Kotor was the only game that was good for those rules (and I love it), simply cause the "knights" in that game are evasion-related (the jedi knights), but all the other fantasy worlds?
An rpg-videogame that doesn't even permit you to choose between evading and reducing damage it's ridiculous at best, all their classes become variation of the same, any knight becomes a rogue when D&D is involved, each time, developers don't know how to translate it and Larian didn't even try to adjust the matter.
Larian+D&D fans, an incredibly huge combo that don't know video-games at all and make it pass like any game using D&D is perfect. That's what made BG3's luck, plus the obvious great positives like its graphics.
I could list all the negatives of BG3 for example, and positives, the game is likeable but far from the perfection they sold it for. About the negatives, it's a very long list that anyone would recognize and hated in the game but that you never heard anywhere cause such fans attacked all objections instantly.
All the Hulk-jumping for example (scandalous how "Z", if I remember its default key, is the most used key in that game and lets you jump entire buildings...), forced in both exploration and combat (!), not even Inquisition forces you to jump so much and certainly not so much in combat if at all. Or the childish dialogues and psycho consequences actually forcing you to a dark route (you can find several complains pre-release from beta-testers, entire topics, about paladins unable to be decent with all those "kill all" dialogues and consequences, dehumanized).
And you don't need to wait 25 turns in an actual funny game to just jump here and there. Xcom understands how to actually create a funny videogame with turns, doesn't force you to wait 10 minutes just to... jump again cause jump is op (-.-").
Should I stop the list already?
Like the graphic is about great textures and lightning but lack some important animations (like evading ones or the "invisible shields").
Yes, you can start to see how it is heavily possible to criticize even BG3.
And you can start to see that I liked some D&D games (Kotor) and some turns-based games (Xcom), I actually love them, they are in my top five ever. I can also list the many negatives of Origins, and the many positives of DA2 and DAI, cause that's what an expert videogamer does, it's able to like more than one game.
I desperately want Origins AI-tactics/customization back, I find them superior to turns in videogames (we got some recently in a few successful games, for example in Unicorn Overlord), but that doesn't make me vomit on action games (or turn-based ones) just cause they are a different kind of game.
What a 1-trick hater does instead is: "Origins/BG3/D&D is the only decent game on Earth, the rest is ♥♥♥♥".
Start to recognize and isolate them for the noobs they are, if they cannot see positive and negatives in more titles than one.
An expert should know the weak points of its own expertize, if they don't, they are sellers (and haters of different products)...
1: heck, I'm nearly forty and can understand this, but personally never felt that deviation from older styles to attract new fans really affected me.
2: the cinematic trailer sure had a quirkier and lighter tone, but the gameplay reveal I think showed a darker tone to the story
3: can see how this alienates some people, I see it as going the Mass Effects route, sure there's less tactics but hopefully we can have some control over combos and stuff
4: on this I agree fully
5: no strong feelings about this, as long as the story and characters are entertaining, the art style doesn't bother me
6: once again, kind of agree. Sure, we can't be sure but your observations might be correct. Where my feelings differ is that once again, if it's entertaining, I don't mind cliches, but understand why people dislike them.
