Hi, Im having an issue with the camera on my quest 3 not appearing to be on. In my windows all's i see is either my chromakey colour, or white noise. I cannot figure out how to activate the camera, please can someone help.

Much appreciated in advance.

Did you set Reality Mixer to use a solid color instead of a camera feed?
Did you choose the same solid color in the Virtual Desktop settings on the Quest?

Hi, I am having an issue setting up my Quest 3. It worked for a while but I managed to change something to cause the issue and haven't a clue what. I can see my desk through the passthrough with no issues, but when I run X-Plane 12 the white or light items in X-Plane cockpit show as the colour selected as the chromakey. For examble sky or instrument needles.
Virtual Desktop with SteamVR.
Any sugestions? TIA

EDIT and UPDATE: Managed to solve it. It was the 'Simularity' slider in Virtual Desktop. corrected to a 20% sweetspot. Now I understand what that control can do :-)

Does anyone know is virual desktop required to use Reality Mixer? It seems like all instructions request that I setup Virtual Desktop too?

Am I supposed to be running Virtual Desktop from Steam? or from my Quest 3?

  • On the Quest: You need the Virtual Desktop app. Using this app, you select the passthrough color on the Quest.
  • On the PC: You need the Virtual Desktop Streamer, which you can download from their website: https://www.vrdesktop.net/
When all is up and running, make sure you choose "Use Solid Color" on the Camera Setup page of Reality Mixer. Choose the same color as you chose in the app on the Quest.

And regarding above: VD requires a wireless connection to the headset? ie a wired connection cannot use VD and thus cannot use this app?
Probably a question for VD page...

There are several ways to use Virtual Desktop with a wired connection. Take a look here:

now that meta has released an API for camera access, will it make Virtual Desktop unnecessary?

It was already possible to show (parts of) the camera feed on the Quest, but apps didn't have access to the cameras themselves. It was handled by the Meta software on device. I don't think they have changed that policy yet.

Is there a plan to get it work with Steam-Link?

It's a big disappointment that "Virtual Desktop" is necessary for this. This should have been pointed out before purchasing!

I'm having an issue where if I enable passthrough on virtual desktop it will have its own passthrough running + reality mixer boxes in game. I think it may because the new version of virtual desktop has multiple options for passthrough now, instead of just an "enable" button?

I believe your right, I've been using Virtual Desktop and it worked fine until they changed it and took out the "Enable" checkbox for passthrough. Now it doesn't work at all.

Not working here either. Just showing boxes the same color as the solid color I chose that is the same in VD. Can’t figure it out. Don’t have an enable button in VD though. Has 3 other options. Should I check one of those?

Check the Environment option. That worked for me.
