Reality Mixer - Mixed Reality for VR headsets

Reality Mixer - Mixed Reality for VR headsets

Makes dcs stutter
Any ideas why as soon as I launch reality mixer it causes dcs to stutter so bad it's unusable on the quest 3? I was able to use with no problem with a reverb g2. I can run dcs flawlessly (with very high settings) via quest link and through virtual desktop if I use open composite. If I launch through steamvr and launch reality mixer the passthrough part works great but it causes dcs to stutter to the point it's unplayable. Any help would be appreciated.

same issue here

according to somebody replying on a video on youtube, it only happens on the standalone DCS version, not the Steam version? Can somebody verify?

I have the standalone DCS (latest version, MT, with --force_enable_VR startup property)

I use dcs steam version and have the same issue. Got a Quest 3 specifically for AR usecase with reality mixer. But as soon as I mix those 2, dcs jitters so much its unplayable.

Well, after some trial and error I noticed, that the jittering is way better if I start the game with single-threading. Somehow the multi-threading option is really bad together with reality mixer.

finally got everything working and found that for some reason the Multithreaded version of DCS is somehow conflicting with Reality Mixer. this is NOT ideal

1st. we can't run DCS in multithread, because RM has issues (unsure why)
2nd. we can't run DCS with OpenXR, because RM needs OpenVR (SteamVR)

seriously, I was hoping that this software would finally make my DCS experience good, but all it's done is set me back to the old DCS where it ran like ♥♥♥♥. so either I have DCS run terrible or I have RM cause uncontrollable stutters that also make for a less than ideal experience.

no idea how to ping the devs here, but for the LOVE of god, please fix this!

I seem to have a similar issue with MSFS2020 and the quest 3. If I have Reality Mixer running the game shudders, not majorly but enough to make it unplayable and promoting motion sickness/ feeling ill.

Originally (as i got the quest 3 to use with Reality mixer as my Pimax Crystal doesn’t support pass through ) I thought it was just how good the Quest ran MSFS2020 but somehow I deactivated Reality Mixer by mistake and without it the quest 3 runs the game as smooth as my Crystal.

As I have no idea how it works the only conclusion I can come to is it something to do with the quests tracking being shared with the reality mixers passthrough usage,

As i only found out tonight I haven’t really messed with the settings. I haven’t really confirmed this but For example I don't think the toggle switch to turn off the mixing within the reality mixer setting stops the shudder and only closing the reality mixer totally does.

I have a fairly good computer with a 4090 Graphics card so I don't think its a performance issue. It could be something conflicting with Reality Mixer that we all have installed although Im not sure what that could be.

Im using the quest 3 with a usb wired connection not sure if that makes any difference.

Does this still happen with the latest SteamVR beta version? It recently had some overlay improvements. Maybe that fixed it.

Totally agree with MSFS.. I've tried so many different settings, it just kills it. Now I'm on a 3080 ti, but I should be able to get somewhat decent performance with it.. I take RM away and things improve a LOT..

With a Single Thread ending and only Multi-Thread only being available, any updates on this issue?

Depending on the resolution, RM will cause significant lag. With my 4090 and Reverb G2, I can normally go as high as 4800ish by 4700ish with DLSS and motion reprojection. Without RM this resolution works buttery smooth. With RM... mostly not.

After some VRAM demanding operations in DCS, such as respawning or looking at F10 map, looking down to my MIP (I have angle activated box showing my MIP) triggers an unbearable level of lag.

Alt-Tabbing to another full screen window and back to DCS works around this issue, sometimes it happens in flight too, and then I hate to do an alt-tab from VR...

We must be aware that RM does consume certain amount of GPU and VRAM resources. Increasing VR resolution only makes those resources less available to RM...

Try to use DLSS/FSR and motion reprojection with RM, and find your resolution sweetspot, that's my advice, after months of my own research... hope this helps
